Gas fumes
accidently spilled gas in my car. The gas jug had a faulty lid. The smell is extremly strong! Ive left the windows down and sprayed febreeze etc and all i smell is gas. After a couple days of inhaling it, i got a dry cough and now im more chest congested and coughen/wheezing. Whats the best way to get rid of that smell!

Re: Gas fumes
Sell it! Really I dont know if anything will get that smell out except for repeated cleanings and a lot of time with the windows down. Good Luck!

Re: Gas fumes
My grampa told me to try and soak it out when that happened, or you can just run a propane heater for an hour inside with the windows rolled up......

Re: Gas fumes
I'd probably remove the carpet, then soak it down with a water soluble degraser. Then shop vac the water and cleaner, or better yet rent a rug doctor from Lowe's.
Or even cheaper and lazier... Take the truck to a coin op car wash, spray degreaser on the area with gasoline then use the power washer to wash out the stink and degreaser. If that didn't work, I'd use that as an excuse to buy a new carpet kit

Re: Gas fumes
This is from e How (no guarantees from me)
First of all, Gasoline is an acidic petroleum base. So the problem needs to be met at that level. # 2 Break the acidity down by rubbing Powdered Baking Soda into the carpet. Wet lightly and rub it in some more. Let dry and vacuum. Repeat about 3 times. # 3 Spray the spot down with Pinsol, briskly brush it deep into the fibers to break up the petroleum. Let it set for an hour and blot dry it with a towel. Repeat as often as necessary. Re: Gas fumes
I like chevyboy's plan.... but I would then pull the carpet out and take it to the coin op. You'll be amazed at the filth

Re: Gas fumes
Gas eats carpet for a warning(sister spilled some in the her house and ate the carpet pretty good). Go rent a carpet shampooer thats for small jobs like carpets of cars and fine detailing and shampoo the area with some carpet soulution and thatll remove the smell. I own a comercial cleaning company and when i detail my vehicals i will use the shampooer for the carpets and the seats and it works great and takes the stains dirt and smell out too. If you do that make sure you get air circulating once your done so it dries and doesnt smell musty in there.
