Shift into 4wd GMC?

Hi guys.
New to the forum and these trucks. I just got a 62 GMC 4wd and all of the info is rubbed off of the 4wd gear shift. It feels like there's a 4lo (all the way forward), neutral (middle) and 4hi (all the way to the seat). Is there not a 2Hi on these older trucks?

I might have the hi/lo mixed up. I was afraid of breaking something so I didn't drive it, just put it into and out of gear.

Unrelated (?) it seems it doesn't want to shift into gear when I have 4wd engaged. It has the three on the tree gear shift.

Oh, and hubs? They don't turn, but they have screws on the outside of them. Do I remove the screws and turn = not locked anymore? I know they're locked now because when it's not in gear but in 4wd it tries to take off.
I'd like to unlock them but they don't want to turn.

A quick rundown would be much appreciated. I know this is a buncha questions. I'm just excited to get started

Re: Gear setup on 4wd GMC?

Need to know what kind of transfer case it has first. Take a picture of it and post it here, someone will be able to identify it

I'd still wait for the picture to say 100% but it should be a Rockwell T221. The shift pattern I believe is 2H, 4H, N, 4L. 2H being toward the dash.

The hubs should lock/unlock without any hassle. Maybe pull them apart and give them a cleaning.

i don't know where to start on your shifting issue. Sorry.

Re: Gear setup on 4wd GMC?

I'm guessing he has drive flanges on the front axle, and I've seen some older ones with full time 4WD transfer cases, but hopefully not for his sake!.

Thanks! So the pic above should be the gear positions.

Can I still buy one of those placards like that for the transmission hump?

Also, is it normal for them to be all wet and nasty? I read that they're normally weepy but this seems excessive to my untrained eye.

Edit: About the hubs, my idiot butt was trying to turn the entire hub, not the interior selection dial. Problem solved.

Check LMC Truck for the decal. Might be available. Looks like it needs seals.
