Tires

What tires do you guys reccomend for mostly snow 4x4ing? The truck will be seeing some mud too time to time. But more snow then anything.

Also its gotta be a 37" tall tire.

Re: Tires

What kind of budget are you looking at? Bias ply, or radial? Width? Wheel size?

70stroker just got some Cooper tires on his truck, and likes them.

Re: Tires

I just bought goodyear wrangler duratrac and its the best tire Ive ever driven with in snow or on ice. Its a mud/snow tire that is stud-able. Im not sure if they go as big as 37 but I would recommend them any day to everyone. I bought a truck and it needed tires to make the 500 mile drive home so I bought these tires and then drove home following my dad in his truck with all terrains in a massive snow storm through the mountains. He lost control twice and I never even had a problem. Yesterday while driving through my small town the streets are sheer ice but I didnt even notice till the truck in front of me failed to stop and the stop sign in time. Check em out, my friend also got them in 35's on his lifted chevy. My dads now buying them too...

ps
I also saw a video of a jeep driving in frame deep snow with these tires and it never stopped.

Re: Tires

Many many choices out there. Look for lugs and open tread for mud and it'll do fine in the snow. All terrains work well in snow but not in mud.

Re: Tires

Those coopers do look good....for mud. They have very little sipping which is crucial for good snow tires. If your driving on snow those look to be as good as tsl or bogger which suck on ice and on the road but work in well in snow(somewhat). Ill keep pushing the duratracs, theyre great and dont make any noise.

Are you purely driving off road?

Re: Tires

I can't find them in a 37" tire. I drive about 70% street. But winters get rough right around january with a few weeks up to 1-2 feet of snow in the city. Plus those nights where you go do a little pulling in the snow

Re: Tires

Just buy the 35 and only run them in winter, thats what I did except I went with a 31 because I dont have lift yet. Ill have 37 or 38's for summer use. We received around 6'' to 1' on tuesday and my truck never even noticed. My towns streets are literally sheer ice right now and I havent had a traction problem once.

Re: Tires

There isnt much difference in a 35 or a 37 maybe a inch . most tire companys over size bigger tires it might say 37 x13.50 by what ever on the side but in real world its really a 36 or a 36.5 . i wanted 37s on my truck also but looking at everything it wasnt really that much rubber difference . go to the companys web site you are looking at tire brand wise and see what the specs are . I heard the km2 was supposed to be decent but a 37 is going to be expensive unless you go with a 325 75 16 witch is the same size as a 37 13.50 . i know cooper makes a nasty tire the SST and they come in 37s or 325 80 16 . thoses coopers are nasty in all weather we put them on a lafarge truck and he was pushing mud with the head lights in the stock 2500 chevy 4wd truck .

Re: Tires

I have seen several sets of these on CL. I believe they are military Hummer surplus. $350 for a set of four...can't get much better than that. Keep your eyes open on CL as there will no doubt be some closer to you than these.

Re: Tires

The only problem with the humvee tires is they are 12-ply side walls, and don't have a lot of siping, or grooving. That is the only reason I didn't sugest them myself.

I have had a set of BFG radial TA tires since 2003 and they are still going. Great in snow. 1990 chevy 1/2 ton 350 automatic.

Re: Tires

I have been running Cooper Lt for 20yr and I love them!!!! They stay clean in the mud, 9times out of 10 in the deep sand I dont have to air down.I get 40-44,000mile out of each set. I dont get into alot of snow out here in So-Cal but the snow I have been in they have worked great!
Every one I run into that are running Cooper say the same thing ,that they love them.I think most people just dont give them a try.
I had BFG AT on my 76 and they were one of the worst tires I ever ran!!! Always cloged with mud and always had to air down in the sand and they were $50.00 more than the Coopers.I will never by BFG again!!

i agree that the all terrains dont clean out very well under real muddy conditions. might as well get a run of the mill tire if you are thinking about bfg all terrains

Re: Tires

in canada some tire shops will do whats called siping. lots of big diesels run 35"+ mud tires that have been siped. They run quieter but wear out faster on asphalt. The biggest advantage is that it makes them perform in the snow without losing the mud performance. Lots of plow pickups run them. It voids the warranty. But you get to run a nice looking, easy to find, and proven mud tire.
