Welded the nuts to inside the frame, that way when I get the frame sandblasted and prepped for paint I can easily remove the cab mounts.


I welded top and bottom of frame in. I had to stop because I ordered the Porterbult Dropmember and I didn't know how far I would need box in the frame to.

Boxed in and sprayed with some simple flat black. Just waiting on front end.

I'm pretty siked at this point. Wondering about an inner frame brace. I was thinking of purchasing the Eastwood tube bender and build my own. Cant be that hard...? Anyone build anything like that before.

So the LS that I purchased a while back, I took it to the car wash and hosed her down. Well...after a couple of months just chilling in the garage, the rust set in. I broke her down and the crank was pitted like crazy! Put it back together, used that as a core and pulled another.

You got skills man! Cutting a frame apart like that would scare me! Looks really good so far. I am not familiar with the IRS stuff. How much better is that over a stock rear? How are you protecting the inside frame rail from rust when you are boxing the frame? I wanted to box my frame, but couldn't figure out a good way to prevent rust. Also without a plasma cutter that would take quite a bit of time! Ha! Looks like you have the right tools/equipment for the job! I'm jealous!

Thanks a bunch, I was hesitant at first to cut the frame. Mostly scared of the fitment, not having it line up right. After I made the first cut, I thought: well, if it doesn't work, I can alway buy another frame off CL.

The IRS, I wanted something different, I could've done bags over axels, or bags with a four link. I have a truck now that's bagged, straight axel in the rear. Hopefully the IRS will ride a bit smoother.

The inside of the frame I scraped as much dirt and grime off that I could, then shot it with some Rust Converter. Not sure if its going protect the inside of the frame, but I didn't want to trailer the frame to get sand blasted then start boxing it all in. The plasmas came in handy though, if I were you and ya didnt wanna spend the dough on one. Rent one. Or you can (it will take you some time)

I have one of these and used the crap out it when I didn't want to cut (plasma) metal late at night.

I gotcha! Shoot, never thought of a band saw. Might have to look into one of those. Nice to see your girlfriend helping you out too! That's pretty cool! Is that how you get to work on it more?? Ha!

Ripped that truck intake off, tons of people making a great deal of horse power with that intake. I feel it looks like its from Mars. The LS1 intake looks way nicer in my opinion.

Oven cleaner, Carb cleaner, Parts washer, all in that order for these things

You can see how disgusting the engine is. Oven-cleaner really helped out with the cleaning process

After hours of honing the cylinders, cleaning the surface of the block, she's getting there.

On to the cam bearings after the cylinders. Pretty happy at this point. Here's a couple pics of the block.

Very nice! I have a 69 lwb myself that im looking into cutting down to a shortbed, how hard was it would you say? Im leaning towards the Brothers Lwb to Swb kit but i dont want to spend $500 for it right now. Anyways, looking great! Cant wait to see it finished

It was super easy cutting the back half off! Ha! Now the section where you want to make your cut for the 12” out is a different story, the cut will be easy but lining everything back up will be the brain buster. There’s a couple of options that you can choose, won’t cost you $500. I would suggest making sure your welder is setup right. Build a c-channel or something to support the welded section. Burn that biscuit in!

Once you’re done you’ll be happy you did it on your own.
