Yes another 72 build thread

Cleaned the top today, using Ajax, scotch brites and a pressure washer. Ready for new weather stripping and paint. You can see my creaper I used to mobilize the top from the garage, using two 2x4's :

Yeah, I guess I got pretty lucky on the top. It does have some minor hair line cracks I'll be glassing over. I'm going to replace all the rubber on it after It's painted.

I'm in the process of looking for a decent mig welder so I can start the body work this winter. May have to sell my rare 72 extreme bend chrome tow hooks to fund the purchase, lol.

Been working on getting it ready for winter. Trying to locate a daily driver so I can tear this one down and do some serious body work. Had to photoshop these photos cause they were to dark. Custom grill cover for the cold nights we're getting now. Can't wait till spring already, lol. Primer is for the surface rust I took off.

My 90 k/5 last winter before I sold it for my 72. I did alot of work on this to make it right. Hince the username my90k5. Wish I could have kept this one to restore my 72.

Yeah, my first projects are a cart, table and finish my sandblaster finally. I'm also drawing plans for a utility trailer to haul all the body parts to the sandblaster. Wow, with all that needs to be done prior, I'm hoping I can do some work on my k/5 lol

It's been some time since I've been on here thought I would check in. Me and the girlfriend parted and went our separate ways. I've been really busy the last couple months trying to find a place and now moving all my things in.

I just had my cable installed along with the internet so now I'm able to post some updates as they come.

The positive out of it is now I have a two car garage instead of working out of that small single car garage.

Ordered my body mount's from LMC (should be here tomorrow). Once I get the body back on track I can start cutting out the rusted panels and rockers and start welding in new metal. Looking to have the interior done by early summer

Striping the interior for a complete makeover:



The brown color on the hump and floor is the glue left behind after I pulled the carpet out.



Some rust here and there. Ordered a floor pan and rockers today. The drivers side looked a little rough for me. I have more pic's of the interior completely striped and cleaned, I was really impressed with the minimal rust throughout.

I'm ditching my headers for a set of 2.5 Ram horn manifolds and a set of dynomax hemi turbo mufflers . I've had nothing but trouble with these headers not sealing correctly.

Currently I have a set of thrust on it and it's just to much noise for me. After stripping the interior out you can really hear all of the noises from the truck you don't normally hear when it's complete.

Those floors are in pretty good shape if you ask me. That's just surface rust. Take a fiber wheel to it and prime/paint it. I'd love to have a floor that clean.

Thanks Blue for the thoughts. My camera is down right now (battery) so I haven't been able to post any photos. I did sand the floor and there are no pin holes or rust through in the floor.

I used a rust converter afterwards and an encapsulator and my plans are to repaint the enterior anyway. Will post some pics when I get my new camera.

It's just been to cold to do anything to the blazer so I'm trying to finish up some shop projects I started on.

My blasting cabinet is almost complete -



You can see my welding cart in the bottom corner, I just have to weld up the drawer for it and it's finished.

Spring is around the corner for you guys, so be encouraged - things are blooming out here already and we've had a month of 70 degree weather. Keep us posted with your progress - a fun build to watch. Makes me wish I still had my '71.

Did you know that the front and rear carpet strips are the same? I just noticed while I was cleaning them, lol......



The rear one had some rust on the bottom so I roughed up the bottom and applied a rust encapsulator.

I’m in a dilemma here, I’m about to do a frame off on my 72 Blazer. I thought about doing the original paint and interior but after seeing other colors (classic colors) I’m having a change of mind. I also don’t really like the old truck trany behind a healthy 350, it just doesn’t have the get up I’m looking for so I’m thinking of changing that out to an auto.

I guess I’m really answering my own question here, and yall (in your words) would probably say “it’s your truck do with it what satisfies you, you have to drive it”.

But in the long run would those who have dramatically changed there truck ever want to change it back to original? I really like that medium olive poly though.

Is this common, lol. I’m just an old guy who wants a clean good running proud to show off Blazer and keep the classic look. Ya know?

Should I keep the Ochre?

I would say if your not going for an origional restore then why worry about the color or tranny? My opinion is if i buy a truck with a standard tranny its getting changed to an auto eventually, As for the origional color it may be painted a different color.. But its utimatly up to you.

On a 72 blazer, I vote to keep the ochre, but then again, it is definitely one of my favorite colors (along with hugger orange, red, and even dark green even though it isn't factory). Just my two cents.

As for the tranny, I say build-up a 700R4. When you feel lazy, put it in "D" and cruise. When you feel like scaring little children*, bang thru the gears just like driving the old SM465, but without clutching.
