"Chevrolet Trucks: 100 Years" book opinions

I'm not sure how many of you have seen this book yet since it wasn't promoted and you can't find it in any book stores (at least the ones I checked). I ended up getting it from Amazon when it was released during all the 100 years celebration stuff for Chevy trucks. I just finished reading through it and wanted to see what others thought of it.

Honestly, I have to say I wasn't as thrilled with it as I originally thought I would be when I saw it was coming out. For the most part, the book just highlights major year to year changes in the trucks and doesn't dive too deeply into anything. In fact, quite a bit of the text is directly quoted from sales brochures and ads. It also heavily references Mike Mueller's book written in 2004 which is of a similar format. The book is filled with photographs, but most are picked right from ads and promotional photography. There were almost no photos that I had never seen before. There was also no new insider information or interviews with anyone critical to the development of Chevrolet trucks despite the authors connections from a career in automotive journalism and documentaries. The book felt more like a commissioned work by Chevrolet to serve as an advertising piece for their trucks. This was especially evident with the emphasis given to the current generation trucks in the book. Then again, maybe I'm judging it too harshly based on my perception of what I wanted this book to be, versus what it was meant to be. As a casual and brief history of the progression of Chevrolet trucks, this book gets all the major stuff right and in a neat chronological order with many large and colorful photos. For most readers, they will probably learn something new by reading this book. At the very least, it's worth looking through once or twice for anyone interested in Chevy truck history.
