For the MII guys

I wanted to know if I can use the front sway bar off of 73-79 mustang to put on my Heidts MII suspension for a AD truck? I see one for $30 used but wasnt sure if it would work. Are all of the aftermarket MII suspension the same width? I see most companies sell the new for our trucks from $170-$280

Re: For the MII guys

The mustang based suspension you have is an 1974-78 or 1974-80 Pinto/Bobcat. These sway bars have a 4" drop in the middle that would be to close to the ground. Most of us that build Mustang based suspensions have our own sway bars designed to fit. Since it's a Heidt's kit, I'd suggest calling them and find out about theirs first.

Re: For the MII guys

It can be used but it will need some tweeking, and it will show from the front, you will also have to make different end links and a bracket for the lower arm

These were on my computer I don't know if you can see the sway bar or not, but this is a Mll "tweeked" and new brackets on the lower arm, and it works good

Re: For the MII guys

All of the bolt on parts are Mll. Bilstine shocks Chevelle 11" brakes and the crossmember is home grown back in 1991 T-bird rack

Re: For the MII guys

Yes the bar is visable but not by much for the price !!
It is a little low but it keeps you from running in to far and hitting the parking bumpers!!
I looked for some pics but I didn't find any of the center of the bar, I will see what I can do when I find my camera.

As for the strut rods I am using some 1/4"plate for the vertical support with a gussett up to the frame. This mount is VERY critical as it holds all the braking force, so make damn sure you have some good welds!!!!
As for handling, it has been on the truck since the early 90's and has over 100K on it and I love it, tthe rack and pinion is great for in town and the Bilstine shocks made the biggest improvement in the ride. On the freeway it is one handed at speed with the T-bird rack.

The 53 that I am building I am using the Dodge Dakota, why, because Steve at Industrial Chassis who makes the crossmember made some very good points when I was looking for suspension components for this build. The dodge is a truck and the same width as our AD's and it is much heavier DUTY than the Mll, and has the right geometry, and the bolt on parts are inexpensive, and it has RACK and PINION. The bolt pattern is Ford which will match the rear which is 9" Ford. I do not have this on the road yet but it was very easy to install and the price for everything including the rebuild, ball joints, bushings, rack rebuilt and it uses a chevy PS pump!

I found some more pics but not the ones I was looking for. The Dakota in mock up but you can see the sway bar on the dakota front end in place. The other one is another one of the 55 and you can not see the sway bar at that angle, but it is visable at a distance

Wow -15 degrees. I remeber those days back in Chicago when I use to be a cable guy. That weather is not for me anymore. Besides you only get 3-4 good months to really work on the trucks

Im trying to lay mine in the weeds Solidaxel. Are you saying this wont work for that? The mustang bar

Re: For the MII guys

If you are going that low I would not suggest it. Save your lunch money and go for the right one, if you are running a bumper and there are curbs where you are that low will be "fun"
