I can't help you but it sure is a nice looking truck. It's the first heavy half step side I've seen.

I can't give you production numbers, but I would say that any squarebody truck isnt "rare" just not as common. But it looks like you have a very nice truck!

Re: 1979 heavy half stepside

My 74 shortbed has everything that a heavy half/big ten would have but it was a fleetside and I swapped it to a stepside. I think big ten/heavy half designation didn't come out until '76 or '77 (don't believe me 100%) but you could still get the same equipment prior to that. I'll have to look at my spid, I'm not sure what it was called. I know they are 56" and 8+overload rear springs

Re: 1979 heavy half stepside

Mine says G50 - HD rear spring. Just saying this because your search may come up as your truck being more "rare" than it actually is because it may not include same optioned trucks before the big ten/heavy half was actually called that. I have had a few 88+ trucks that had HD suspension and were called F44. Not sure what the actual rpo is for them

Re: 1979 heavy half stepside

Nice truck.
Funny thing about you wanting to know how rare it is because about 12 years ago I thought that only Heavy Half were stepsides because there so many around and I still see some today and they almost all had a camper top. I think the difference is that they have more leaf springs, a sway bar and posi. I could be wrong.
I didn't see much SWB Heavy half ( or didn't notice it ).
Must be a region thing.

The rpo for heavy half and big 10 is F44. Seen lots of short bed big 10s.

Re: 1979 heavy half stepside

It's a nice looking truck, I could be wrong, but to me the value of that truck is in its condition, not so much related to options it does or doesn't have.

If you're selling it I'm sure you'll have no trouble finding a buyer.
