buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

so i went to go and look at the 69 burb with the 67 front clip. it had the front disc power brake swap done, the rear was still 6 lug, but it had this nasty rust issue on the tailgate..it was a chunk of bondo that was peeling/de-laminating and rusting bad behind it. floors were rusted in the front but the rest of the floor was good. the kick panels were horrible! you could hear the rust breaking apart when you held the door open at full extension.... i could actually see the kick panel coming apart at the crack where the rust was! some pretty nice rust to say the least and the gas tank was in the bed.... not hooked up.the good: it had a running motor in it, it had 4 wheels, and all the glass was good. i might be able to get a nice deal on it... but do you think its too much work for what its worth?

here are some pics.... please let me know what you think!

and thanks again to all of you that helped me out last time!
you guys rock!

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

Do you weld and do body work? I think the rust above the windshield is the biggest red flag. But they do repop those now. It's just a question of: How much of the rest is rotting from the inside out?

If the price is right and you are comfortable doing all that rust repair (garunteed to be more than in the pics), then get it.

Worst case is it ends up being a parts truck.

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

it looks more like a minnesota burb with all that rust, but its the best way to start a project with a complete truck, but u gotta keep in mind with all that rust it might be wrth trying to find a nice burban shell some where, if the price is right being im from minnesota i woudnt pass up that if i could help it even with the rust

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

i still don't know if i want it or not... the rust is bad, but i can get a 70 burb shell freshly painted and cherry for 200.... but its not like its a truck cab... that thing will probably need to be lifted with a front loader no easy job in the city ya know!

IMO, on the left coast, that is a parts truck.

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

My first burb looked similar to that and after purchase and much contemplation it became a parts burb. I found my 70 and ended up paying 6 times more but this one had only very, very minor rust issues. If you have the skills and ambition go for it but I think in Cali you could find much better.

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

Personally from the pictures I don't even see that being worth parts. This blue burb was in much much better shape than that one and we did use it for parts. The only thing you're going to get with a project that far gone is discouragement.

That one there will buff out,
Personally I would look for another burb, they can be had and in much better condition depending on the funds.

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

yeah, i found 2 others... an all original 1970 2wd burnt orange and white burb with bone white interior, clean unmolested dash and no rust inside. only rust is minor to the rear outside fender wells, and a few minor dents here and there for 1400
today i am going to look at another 1970 clean original gold and white paint no rust or dents, newer re-done tan interior with a new crate 350 no ac power brakes/steering and 6 lug stock height for 2500. hopefully i can find a nice burban soon to start on
i figure i can afford up to 4000 for a nice driver/project.
thanks you guys!

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

its rough but all that stuff can be replaced. If the price is right and that is what you want go for it!
I like getting cheap rough stuff and replacing parts, that is part of the adventure!

Re: buying a new burban... pics, what do you think?

If you have 4K to spend you should buy someone elses half done project. Find one with all the metal work already done and a pile of new parts in boxes. If you know what you're looking at you can get screamin deals that way.

that white one will eat up 4k in body work, and still not be ready.
Go for the cleanest body you can find... you'll be $$$$ ahead.

I agree one hundred percent on this. Buy the best you can afford and go from there unless your just a glutton for punishment.

That thing is pretty rough... for me I would have to let it pass, but I can't weld. So if you can weld go for it!
