Chevrolet Tractors?

We all know Ford makes tractors, so why doesn't Chevrolet make tractors?

Chevrolet doesn't know how to make anything that goes that SLOW!!

Didn't know if anyone has heard that before, but I heard it the other day and got a kick out of it.

That is a good one!!!

Henry the 1st almost broke the company back in his time with his desire to produce tractors.

I'm afraid that they did at one time way back. Called a Samson. Steel wheeled tractor that kindof resembed Ford's Fordson tractor.

Since you mentioned tractors, here are a couple pics I ran across. Tractors need power by gawd!

Tractors are not all slow. I kinda like this one that was at the local car show a few years back. I posted it in the Harley Thread but I'll post it again.

Re: Chevrolet Tractors?

There were some tractors that used Delco parts. Massey Ferguson was one. I have heard of other parts used.

The AC in AC Delco doesn't stand for Allis Chalmers ... it stands for Albert Champion ... the same Albert Champion of Champion spark plugs.

Re: Chevrolet Tractors?

Ohhh daddy. That Ford 8N with the flathead is gorgeous. I've always thought the 8N's were the prettiest tractors ever made, and that one's got a V-8 to boot. I just messed myself when I saw that pic.

Thanks for the pic, and any more info/linky on it ?

Re: Chevrolet Tractors?

Special K, you are one of the smartest dudes on the board, but my other hobby is tractors so I know SOME (stress some...cause down under all that fluff I am really a dumb A%^) things about them, Allis Chalmers never was a GM company, they were there own company until 1985 when they sold out to global conglomerate AGCO, the only remaining part of Allis Chalmers is a small electricity producer. Now don't hate me cause I got much respect for you man!

Ford has not made a tractor since the 80's when the tractor divison was sold to New Holland.

Farmtruk google Funk Ford Tractor Conversion, you will find lots of info. That is a gussied up Funk 8cyl conversion, they also made a 6cyl conversion. (no kidding the name of the company was FUNK they were an air craft company that started making tractor stuff in the 40's)

Thanks for the info. Google is great. Just didn't know exactly what to search for. Lots of info came up.

That could be a future project for me. Gotta get the Farmall fixed up first. Rose runs great, but needs to be prettied up.

Rose...1958 IH Farmall Cub. This past winter my father & I repaired the radiator, carb, gov., fuel bowl, generator, wiring, ect. She's in perfect running order, and is a hard worker. Hope soon to start prettying her up.

Her big brother, Bluedog, 1971(?) Ford 2000. Not much to look at, but again, is in perfect running order mechanically. Not planning on restoring him (yet ).

My neighbor has an 8N, and I've always thought they were the best looking tractors ever made. That's why that FUNK convo caught my eye.

Re: Chevrolet Tractors?

No offense here,Ted.I might know a thing or two,but I`m no know-it-all.And,smart?You don`t know me well,do ya?I`ve been around tractors alot in my life, but admit I don`t know alot of technical(?) stuff on them.I just drew that conclusion about Allis Chalmers years ago and had it in my head that way. After all, they`re the same color as my favorite motors. What about Fiat-Allis,how did that come to be?GM has been in the heavy equipment biz over the years but I forget how it all linked up.Didn`t GMC make a V6 tractor motor?

I always liked the Jubilies and 8Ns,too.A Jubilie was the first tractor I ran.The front ends looked like one of my favorite cars growing up,the`39 Ford.

Re: Chevrolet Tractors?

Special K, here is the scoop on deutz-allis. I guess I did not have it quite right, Deutz bought Allis before AGCO, I copied this off the web:

"In 1984, Allis-Chalmers was in a difficult position and the company was purchased by Deutz. Deutz rebranded the Allis tractors as Deutz-Allis and began importing Deutz-Fahr tractors under the Deutz-Allis name. The switch to green, from the traditional Allis orange, was a disappointment for loyal Allis-Chalmers farmers. In 1991, the Deutz-Allis company was sold to AGCO, which renamed the brand as AGCO Allis and returned to the orange paint scheme. The AGCO Allis name was dropped by AGCO in 2001."

P.S. I agree, jub's and 8n's are just cool, hard working machines.

Re: Chevrolet Tractors?

GMC made some tractors back in the 1920's . They were called a samson at first and then la few years later the same tractor was called a samson/gmc.
They were about 3 times more expensive as there competor the fordson. So they were not made but about 6 years.

Pictures of my 1953 John Deere 40, I got it from my best friends family. I am the second owner of it.
