Re: A different approach to a LWB to SWB conversion

This is like watching a master at work- hell, it IS watching a master at work. I'm doing a '69 GMC C2500 right now, it'll stay a long bed, but there's some dings and scuffs that need mended. If I ever get the urge to 'make' a short bed, I think I'll give this method a try- I tend to be patient and detail-oriented, and challenges don't scare me off. The frame weld, though, I think I'll just use the 'usual manner' to accomplish that. I know my limits, that's probably kept me alive this long. Not really, just lucky in quite a few cases.

Artistry in steel- ain't nothin' like it!

A few more pictures as I start to assemble the bed.

Re: A different approach to a LWB to SWB conversion

I'm not happy with the bumper, seems to be off a little. I will tilt the bumper a few degrees and tuck it in an inch. Hopefully that will be what I'm looking for.

Re: A different approach to a LWB to SWB conversion

The folded over front edge looks untouch original to me. I still need to do the left cab corner and finish up the back of the bed seams to complete the body transformation.

Re: A different approach to a LWB to SWB conversion

Inside of the bed looks pretty much like a factory shortbed.

Just for the record, I'm not trying to fake anything here. I just like the look of the short bed better. Heck, everyone knows they never made a C20 shortbed. The serial number and the SPID sheet tell the real story.

Yes, I will show when I form the recess for the side marker light. I will also show the completed truck when it's totally finished.

The work you are doing, the manner in which you are doing it, the timeframe, your skills, and the fact that you are doing it by YOURSELF in your GARAGE puts every body shop and so-called "reality show" to absolute shame.

Somebody should be following YOU with a camera

We know you're not, but there is one glaring detail you might not even be aware of...

The front edge of all 1967-72 shortbeds is "square." All 1968-72 longbeds have a radiused curve (1967 longbeds are square like the shortbeds).

Just thought I'd point that out, a lot of people don't know about that detail.

Amazing work. Great job!
