Disc brake question
My 72 has factory discs but one rotor has been changed . One has a groove around it and the other is smooth .Which one is correct and does it really matter that they are different ?

The factory rotor had a groove, but if they are both within spec, you wont have any troubles

Rebuilding my calipers and I was wondering what that groove is about and if I needed to turn my rotors. Now I know.

That groove is how you can tell you have an OEM original rotor on there. Good stuff. Measure it for thickness and soldier on if it's still within spec. It's twice the quality of any Chinese rotor you can get at the parts store nowadays.

I try to avoid the China syndrome when I can, especially when it comes to brakes but it's getting harder and harder to escape from it. I specifically went to NAPA to get my caliper and wheel cylinder kits only to be disappointed they came from China and Mexico, respectively. I thought I'd also try them for the master cylinder because they are NAPA-branded parts but the pictures they show for it are the identical pictures that all the other parts stores show for their A1-Cardone rebuilt units which I think are also rebuilt in China. I used to think NAPA was synonymous with USA-made but I was wrong.
