I got a set of the Modular drop spindles with the ears in a batch of PB stuff that I bought on here...I thought they were going to be the ones without the "ears", but no such luck. I also got the upper & lower balljoints in the buy, but the part # embossed on the spindle indicates '73-'87, but the balljoints with the PB arms are '63-'70....but they seem to fit the spindles correctly. How is that possible? I haven't actually put them on a vehicle, just a test fit on my work bench, but no excessive slop or total lack of fitment noted...?

Here's the catch:
The Old School Modular drop spindles have the same part number as the old 2.5" drop spindles that they use to make.
How stupid.
If any company still has inventory of the old spindles,... thats what you will get.
Not the new Modular spindles.

I bet this has already been the cause of some mix ups.
The same freakin part number for a different drop and/or design. How brilliant are these boneheads? Maybe that was the whole point.
An easy way to get rid of the old inventory and many buyers wouldn't catch it.

The problem was never with the original Modular spindles (bottom chart part numbers),... It was when CPP started replace their standard DESIGN spindle with a new Modular design with the built in caliper ears. (Top chart part numbers)
So if you order part numbers:
Cp4s1 thru cp4s10 you have no idea which version you are getting.
(depending on the the spindle suppliers amount of old stock left on his shelf)
Big companies like Summit Racing should have the newer product design.

I sent a message to the CPP Ebay Store, asking if the Modulars have Caliper Ears, or they still need the extra caliper mounting bracket, and he said they still need the $75 bracket.

The CPP CP4S2 spindles move the wheels OUT relative to stock '70 C10 drum brake spindles by 0.6" EACH SIDE.

The actual drop is very close to the advertised 2.5".

Thus, the offset chart supplied by CPP (found here: http://www.classicperform.com/Instru...fset_Chart.pdf), which claims 1/16" wider than drums is incorrect.

My understanding is the new design 2.5" drop spindle from CPP (WITH caliper ears cast in),...does not make the claim that they "narrow the track width".
Only the 2" MODULAR drop spindles (with the ADD-ON bracket) narrow the track width.

After searching the forums some more, I came to that conclusion
That clears things up.
I do know that some are still being told that cpp non-modular won't move their wheels out even though they do move the wheels out.
So far the reports are around 5/8" per side.
That was also my experience.
Member Leverhead is supposed to be getting some Modular, and he will then post how they relate to drums track width.

I would imagine that if you also replaced your springs with lowering springs at the same time you replaced your spindles with lowering spindles that your width would increase due to the springs changing your geometry and the results would be skewed.
I am not at the point of ordering my spindles yet but maybe next year. Now I'm going to wait to see if I can get the modulars as I want the option of larger brakes in the future.

If you use the standard 2-1/2'' drop spindle and then replace it with the 2'' Modular 2-piece spindle ( bolt-on caliper bracket ) and change nothing else it will pull the front wheels in 1-1/8'' per side ..... THIS Has been verified by me first hand. I have been involved in three different trucks that had the wrong backspacing on the front wheels and were undrivable. We changed out the front spindles to the modular design and in all 3 instances it pulled the wheels in by 1-1/8'' per side and the trucks became drivable. These spindles require a bolt on caliper mount bracket also.

I stock the spindles and brackets and have sold at least 10 sets or more of them .... They work if you need to narrow the front track width on your disc brake equipped truck.

I am not guessing on this .... this is FIRST HAND experience.

When I say undrivable ... I mean the truck has the wrong backspacing wheels on the front and they are rubbing on the outer edge of the wheel well or fender. One of the owners had a set of wheels that he was told would fit his truck .... But when he tried to put them on ....You would not have been able to drive it without destroying the tires. It had standard CPP drop spindles on it. By putting the 2-piece modular spindle on it ... the wheels were pulled in far enough that the clearance issue was fixed and the tires no longer rubbed.

The problem that I see the more that I deal with wheels and trucks (I have been doing this for over 30 years ) Is that alot of people do not understand backspacing or offsets .... ALOT of people are confused by the numbers.
