420 transmission to 221 transfer case coupler

Take a look at this web site

http://www.americanpowertrainwarehou...2-ton-3890590/

the 60 to 66 transfer case is devorced in the 60 to 66 4x4's. My 68 has a coupler in it. do the 60 to 66 transfer cases have a coupler? i thought ther was a yoke behind the transd mission and a drive shaft between the tranny and the t case in 60 to 66 trucks.

is this a typo error. its for an sm420 to t221 t case.

would this coupler fit the 68 465 to t221 ?

what is up with the rockwell timken 221's and parts. where have all the parts gone?

I see several vendors selling rebuilt transmissions but no parts. did they buy them all up or what?

I remember rebuilding 465's and 221's back in the 70's. long befor ther was an internet we had long distance phone calls. I must have called every GMC/Chevy International and who ever else dealerships to locate parts. and drove over 140 miles round trip to pick up parts. just the phone bills and gas bills alone were out rageous.

Now thats all cheap as the little bird says. but the parts them selves are all gone. so where are these rebuilders getting thier parts from. They claim the t cases are rebuilt using all new parts. did they buy them all up or are they "out of stock".

Re: 420 transmission to 221 transfer case coupler

Welcome to owning a 67-68 4x4. I posted a question a few days ago about the 68 T-221 being the same as the 67 -T221 and I have yet to get a answer whether the 68 will work in my 67. Your right the Rockwell T-221 transfer cases have just dried up. I am now looking at putting in a 465 Np205 set up. I hate to do it to such a stock survivor but this might be the only way to get it back on the road.

I have had many of the 60-66 4x4 trucks they have divorced t-221 cases so no coupler.

I can also tell you the 420,T-221 coupler is not the same as the 465,T-221 coupler. The 465 can be bolted to a NP 205 if you get the right adapter and you will need to change your driveline length. Not sure if your cross member will have to be moved or not.

If you have a link to rebuilt T-221 cases can you please share it.
Good luck,W

Ive never seen a 60-66 married 221. Not saying it didn't happen, just never saw it myself.

"would this coupler fit the 68 465 to t221 ?"

Id call them for sure. The price seems right if it does!

"what is up with the rockwell timken 221's and parts. where have all the parts gone?"

Depends on what parts you're looking for. Seals and bearings can be found. Bearing retainers, shafts and gears can be a little tougher. Ive seen complete takeouts on CL for cheap on occasion.

"I see several vendors selling rebuilt transmissions but no parts. did they buy them all up or what?"

I think I remember Quad 4x4 having 465 parts. I was looking for v4500 parts and could have sworn they had them. That transmission was used for a real long time IIRC. I would think parts are out there. The 420 - maybe not so much.

You have had better luck finding a rebuilt 221 than I. The new parts that they are referring to are probably just bearings, bushings and seals. The hard parts are probably harvested from exchanged units.

I didn't look for that long for a 221 though and went with a 205 because of some of the exact reasons you have stated.

Re: 420 transmission to 221 transfer case coupler

I obviously don't know how to reply to a quoted text. My apologies.

I did a quick Google search though and found that Novak seems to carry a lot of the hard parts as well as rebuild kits for the 465.

Re: 420 transmission to 221 transfer case coupler

Found this too. Divorced but I think many of the parts will interchange

I had suggested Novak for the 465 transmission parts not the transfer case.

I also agreed that the 221 transfer case parts (gears, shafts and cases) are most easily found in used cases like the CL link that I posted. The seals and bearings can be found at bearing houses . Heck I even got the poly t case mounts from Classic Chevy online.
