Smile update on 1979 just shutoff. Everything dead but the lights

Did get back in garage after the cold spell. Did change the fusible link at starter where 2 wires went to 1 and to the positive on starter. I used two fusible links instead of putting together. Truck started right up and I left it idling for 45 minutes and it didn't quit. Real hard to judge if this fixed it until you take it out for awhile. We'll see after I dig out my trailer just in case it quits along the road. I do still have the new fan blower resistor that now runs the fan on high speed when I turn the key on. Old broken one just ran it on low.??Will it run and start if I disconnect this resistor? tried to change wires around no difference.
Thanks for all the good advice. Will keep you updated.
