1972 Blazer rear shakes when braking

Working out a few more bugs in the blazer that I just bought. One is when I start to brake there's a rattle/vibration shaking in the rear. The shocks do look out so that might be a problem. What else could be the problem? Anyway to test it to see what is worn out?

I would pull the drums and look for things such as broken shoe retainng pins, broken shoe pivot stud, damaged shoes, broken/missing springs, etc. Any of these will result in loose parts and/or erratic braking. Also check that the brake shoes have been installed in the proper location. Each pair of shoes has one with a long lining and one with a shorter lining. I can't recall which one is supposed to go in the front or rear position, but it makes a difference. Do it wrong and the brakes will be "grabby".

Vibration when braking is usually in the brakes. Make sure your wheels are tight, if they are and u feel the vibration in the rear I would start with doing brakes in the rear.

Drums are warped.

Agree with Classicstyle, when braking if shaking occurs or a pulsating pedal is usually the cause of warped or to much run out in the rotors and drums.

Shocks can and will contribute to this as can loose u-bolts. But drums are most likey suspect.
