Voltage Regulator
I about got my truck all done. I was work around the voltage regulator I touched the cover and it was warm. The key was off and nothing was on. I disconnected the battery and it cooled off.

Re: Voltage Regulator
You might ask a mod to move this to the electrical section. Vettevet will probably chime in, he is one of the resident experts on electrical here.

Re: Voltage Regulator
Reconnect battery. If it starts to warm back up, remove R-F plug from alternator. If it cools down, there is probably a shorted Diode inside the alternator.
Check voltage on the F-2-3-4 wires on the regulator plug. Only pin #3 should have 12 volts with key OFF. Check by back-probing the wires that go into the plug.
