Re: Billy Big Rig ( 1989 GMC Crew Cab V3500) Lifted custom

Is there any pro/cons to staggering the rear shocks i know for the most part 80s trucks were mostly straight don't cant remember the 1-ton setup i would have to look at my axle but the new trucks also do this, does anyone know anything about it?

It's supposed to reduce axle wrap a little bit as well as wheel hop. It helps to keep the axle centered in the wheelwell when a bump is hit. My '83 K20 is like this from the factory, so I imagine this body style was all like this. I could be wrong though.

OP, from a fellow truck lover from south of your border, THANK YOU for your service! I have many friends in the service and it takes bravery and courage that others just wouldn't understand. I appreciate everything you guys do to help keep us free. Nice rig, too! I love the choices on just about everything you did. I wish mine was half as nice as yours.

Re: Billy Big Rig ( 1989 GMC Crew Cab V3500) Lifted custom

murray, answering ur question, yes it is plywood, its a pressure treated box liner made by mytron box liners out of northern BC. They hold up really well and as it looks in the future this truck wont be sittign out in the weather too much haha

What are the advantages to a wood bedliner?

Re: Billy Big Rig ( 1989 GMC Crew Cab V3500) Lifted custom

Well I went with it over the spray in because for one, it was accessible at the time as I had a contact that had one built for a really good price. Second was that I had a spray in box liner in my other 2006 half tonne and after a few years no matter what i washed it with it never looked like new, for $250 i can pull out old wood liner and put a new one in. Looks like brand new and dont have to worry about 3 or 4 layers of boxliner when a person has to respray.

Awesome truck. I saw it on ebay and your pictures showed that you have AMP Research PowerSteps. I have them on my 06 Megacab and love them. Since AMP doesn't make a kit for the 73-91 Chevys, what kit did you use? Was it tough to get them adapted to the Chevy? Any info on how you did that?

Hi there, thanks for the compliments everyone. The power step I actually built the whole mounting rail from scratch out of a 1.5x5.5 inch tubing. I have all the build pictures to show how I did it but my computer crashed, as soon as I get it going I'll post them. Thanks again.

Yes that is right It is for sale, I am hoping to start another one day but as of now I have.no plans of when or what. Thinking about doing an old muscle car maybe? We will see. Depends if this truck sells or not.

You did a great job on the truck, turned out slick. When you can find those pics of the way you mounted the amp steps I would really appreciate if you could post them. I am wanting to install a set on my 86 crew. And also how you wired them, thanks. Again, awesome truck!

Ditto! Lets see those pics. Your Chev is so similar to my project. I'd like to get as much brainstorming as possible.

Re: Billy Big Rig ( 1989 GMC Crew Cab V3500) Lifted custom

Well I said I wasn't going to star another project but I just picked up a 1985 Gm long box with sbc 350 on propane. Body is in garbage condition but drivetrain and propane system is in great condition. Let's see what we can make of this thing. Pics coming soon.
