Scrapyards

It makes me so mad when you find something in a scrapyard and they rather crush it than sell it to someone. I found a solid 72 2wd blazer today with posi and a 4speed tilt in it and i cant buy a thing off of it. The guy openly told me he paid scrap price for it and i offered him $1500 cash for it and he wouldnt take it. I was wondering how to tell the difference in a truck and blazer door, they didnt have the screws below the vent windows.

Re: Scrapyards

I am confused...did you find the Blazer in a scrapyard? Or did another guy find it, and is now trying to resell it?

Re: Scrapyards

more scrapyards than not will not sell complete vehicles due to the laws on car dealerships and liability issues(lawyers) as any dimwit can sue for anything nowadays

Re: Scrapyards

I swear, around here all the junkyards sell dope and use the junk cars as a front.

There is a very big junkyard near me. They have two strippers that work the counter inside the office. When I say stripper, I mean titty dancer. Both of them drive new Corvettes parked right out front. I walked in one time and told them I needed a 5 on 5 bolt pattern wheel to use for my spare tire. They told me they didn't have any of them. I could see a dozen of them from the front fence. Still, "we don't have any".

They must be selling the dope or something because it's not car parts they're selling.

Re: Scrapyards

I hate the mentality with so many boneyards that makes them more focused on a one shot scrap deal than providing needed parts to many (the original reason junk yards exist),which will provide the fools with more income. it does seems like a crack head mentality...very short sighted. none of my yards have pole huggers, though

I think he's asking if Blazers had the screw below the vent window like the 72 trucks did.

Re: Scrapyards

Blazer doors have a reinforcement plate around door latch, you can see if when you open door. Sorry I don't have a pic of one.

There is a difference. True,I was talking about junkyards too eager to send whole vehicles to the scrapper. But,the scrap yard I go to sells anything they have there. I bought a blue porcelin bath tub that was immaculate for $30 that they probably paid $3 for. I ended up deciding it was too much hassle getting it upstairs in the house I bought it for and took it back for $3. My neighbor bought a whole '72 truck someone hauled in that had some great options. After getting what he wanted he hauled it right back and scraped it again. This is an example of a smart business man who knows how to make money

Re: Scrapyards

Texas has a "line" which defines what can be sold intact, and what has to be scrapped. If it is behind the line, the title goes to the State. Kinda hard to sell a complete vehicle w/o a title...in Texas, if it is in a salvage yard.

Re: Scrapyards

Calif has similar laws. A wrecking yard has so many hours to turn the title into the DMV. It's a guess, but I think they have 72 hours. The state can at any time enter a wrecking yard and check every car to see if it has been cleared with the DMV.
In many, many decades past, many wrecking yards operated almost like chop shops. They would take in cars without titles, not knowing or caring if they were stolen. I'm sure they were all too honest to steal cars themselves.

Before the Salvage laws came into effect, a car could be sold by submitting paper work to the DMV as "Resurrected Junk". The DMV would issue a clean title to the new owner. This had to be done before the car left the yard. Today it would be given a "Salvage" title, but it is much more difficult and I'm not sure of the process. Dealing with the DMV is even more aggravating for wrecking yards than it is for you.

Many wrecking yards also have used car licenses. If they plan on reselling a car when they take it in, then the paper work is handled just like a used car lot would.

Re: Scrapyards

I still don't see how any of these laws would keep a scrap yard from selling a rear axle or steering column.

Re: Scrapyards

ok the question with the doors was the screw and i went back and noticed the latch was the same as a truck so they was not blazer doors, they was cut down truck doors. The blazer is getting crushed tommorow i went back today and tried again and it was no luck. But if in anybody around alabama is looking for a 2wd 72 blazer frame pull a part in birmingham has one but the body is trash. I asked about the frame they want $388 for the frame front and rear end but the posi has been pulled out of the rear.
