Re: Your best junkyard find

When I was in high school I found an Ithaca 1911A1 under the seat of a wrecked Chevy Caprice MHP Patrol Cruzer!

So while I was standing there waiting for the guy to get the seat pulled, I look in the bed of the truck, and all these were just laying there in the bed of the truck.
And here's the seat. It had been recovered in Black Leather, it was just dirty. I took the cover off and sandblasted the frame & repainted it, like I do all my seat rebuilds. Put the cover back on and I got myself a beautiful seat.
You and I may need to have a discussion about one of those grills.

I rebuild them, using the center moldings. The grilles themselves usually have broken tabs or cracked somewhere. Once in a blue moon, I can restore the original grille. I sell them on the parts forum & eBay. There's a link on my signature, at the bottom.

Re: Your best junkyard find

dana 60 front axle .

truck was next to crusher . they set it in the yard for me to pull the axle when i asked . guy with the loader setting it asked me if he wanted me to flip it upside down to get the dana 60 the easy way . . . i said sure thanks .

then i noticed the np205 on a th400 trans .

i cut the u-bolts with a hacksaw and unbolted the sway bar . then unbolted the adapter and took it and the np205 . he come back and scooped the 60 front for me and set it in my truck all for 80 bucks for the axle and 125 for the adapter and 205 t-case .

the np-205 when i tore it down was like brand new .

guy asked me what i was going to do with the 60 . . . i said my plow truck keeps popping 8 lug axles and this one looks bigger than mine so i am going to try it .

Re: Your best junkyard find

Found this GMC Grille & bench seat. I'm not sure of the year on the grille. It has the opening for the hood latch. The truck I got this stuff from, had a mixed bag of parts.

Your grill looks like the one for my '78.

Yesterday at Armadillo Salvage in Forest Mississippi I found a 9" rear for my '64 F100 that has a later Sterling rear in it. While walking between the Antique & Mercury rows I encountered & almost stepped on a 3' Cottonmouth!!!

Yeah... I noticed that after I posted. I am way more interested in a decent JY grill than a fully rebuilt one. You certainly make them nice. I am way too cheap to buy a restored one though.

Re: Your best junkyard find

I was shopping for a D60 to replace the D44 in my K25, & found a beat up 1977 K35 cab chassis flatbed for $1200. Maybe not a great deal to most, since the oil pan had a hole in it, but the owner of the yard said he was scrapping the square sitting next to the truck I was buying & to take what I wanted minus the axles since they were sold.

Since I didn't have a way to lift it off, I wound up w/a th350/203 which was sitting on the flatbed, mint doors, complete with the correct door panels & keys, a mint dash pad & wood grained dash from the other truck that was being scrapped.

The K35 needed a drivers side floor, & a bench seat, but the drivetrain was fine and both axles had just had brakes done.

Now that I've installed a new engine, seat, & floor, & my K25 has a new dash pad & doors - I figure it was a pretty sweet deal.

I guess my best score was a 1970 Olds factory Ram Air hood for $80. Been a few years since I got it.

Re: Your best junkyard find

I rescued my entire truck from a junk yard. Does that count?

Original owner had the junk yard pick it up, but it was to nice for them to crush. 1975 C35 84k miles, 350, th400. $500

Re: Your best junkyard find

Nothing much for me, Usually these trucks are just Stripped or treated like **** in Michigan.

The only thing really special for me was a Like-new 6.2L Starter & Radiator from a Burb & Complete untouched LeMans Front Clip.
