Re: 68 GTO Project

Thanks, something about parts being back on helps I guess lol. I'm hoping the rear bumper brackets I have are right. Have to order bolts for all of that back there as well. Much harder going back together when you're not the one who pulled it apart.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Thanks, just checked it out! Very cool car. I'm still in the "figuring out what the heck I have" stage. Vacuumed the interior and trunk out and found the wiring harnesses that go up front. Not sure how it routes around and behind the headlights. Still need to find a diagram. Seems a little short the way I have it. The vacuuming showed some more rust spots which is always expected. Poor car was full of garbage. Here are a few pics for fun. Don't expect to be wowed lol.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Oh, just in case anyone is wondering, I didn't have to give the "100k as-is" lol! At least it didn't have NOT 4 SALE spray painted in orange down the side of it like the '68 Malibu I bought did. Funny people.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Haven't had a whole lot of time, but I try to squeeze in an hour or two here and there. Cleaned the inside out and finally picked up the drivetrain parts that came with the car. Put it up on jackstands and noticed the internals of the drum brakes have been stripped. Found brackets online that let you use the drum spindle, so it will be getting disc brakes. Same story out back as well, will probably go ahead and do disc back there too. Picked up a new heater core so I can get the heater box and assembly back together and on the car. So much to do, so little time lol.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Good work man! Glad to see there are some still out there to save. I have a 69 GTO and a 68 Lemans currently. And I have rescued several other Pontiacs over the years. All of them 68 & 69 A-Bodies or 70's Firebirds. I don't know if you're aware the trunk lids for 68 and 69 are different. Just one more thing to check.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Thankfully there are still some out there. But they seem to be getting worse for the money. This one was the most I've ever spent, but almost the worst I've ever bought. It'll make a car though. Ordering the front end parts and springs shortly. I'll take some pictures of that. Still need to go pick up the good drivers side fender as well.

I may have to ask you for some pictures of random things so I can get this thing back together. Would love to see them anyways. This is definitely a 68, but it has some Lemans parts on it. The trunk lid is off of a white Lemans. Not sure if it's been wrecked and the parts were replaced or what.

I love the A bodies. I've had a few, the 68 Chevelle was my favorite. This one should be fun too though. Hopefully I'll have some updates on it soon. Just have been busy with the real estate stuff.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Not a problem. Be glad to help. I had a 68 Chevelle too. 396 turbo jet SS dark green with green vinyl top and green interior. After six months I hated all that green. So I sold it. One of my stupider moves.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Haven't had anything to update on in a while. I did get the heater box and core in. Finally found some time today to hook up the cables. Picking up some bolts for the wiper motor this week. Still need to get the ball joints and springs in the front. Then on to brake stuff.

I'm trying to squeeze in some more shop time haha. Mother's Day weekend is a no shop-time kind of weekend. Best to not even ask LOL.

Re: 68 GTO Project

Has been a while since I've updated the GTO thread. Ended up selling the car to my Dad. We moved to a house in town with more room for the kids, but no shop. I got tired of the multicolor, so just sanded and spray bombed it to get it solid. Lol. Got the 400 put together and thrown in it. Dad got it running and the car is off getting painted now. He's going with a Sunset Orange Metallic. Should look nice.
