Yeah - if it had a little vibration before, you'd feel it a lot more now. Must be balanced well if you're not feeling anything.

shortened the trans gear shifter 4.25". i have a smaller lathe and that's the most i could get through the headstock but the length turned out ok.

What a great thread. You did a nice job, I really like the pictures and the explanations.

Finding a 4.56 or even a 4.11 would really be cool. I figure that with a higher ratio you'll have that Ranger paid for in no time.

In the first couple of pictures, I was blown away at how solid your truck is. I'm guessing that it's not from Florida?

This is high on my list, I'm running the sm420 in my c30 and when I get it on the road the higher gear would be nice, any finished photos?

that is correct. montana. there is some rust but it is very minimal. (rear whl opening lips and lt frt fender)
it was claimed to be a 57k original mileage but how would one ever know.

Very cool! Maybe I'll do something like this for my truck instead of spending 2K for a whole new tranny. Sorry if I missed something..but how much did the OD unit cost and where to get one?

Great write up! Thank you. I've been looking at getting one of these units and bolting it up to a SM420 like you did.
Any long term usage information to add?
