God forsaken dash pad grommets
Hi I'm installing a new dash pad and having a hell of a time installing the pictured grommets/fasteners. Any tips or help would be appreciated

i have seen 2 different versions of this --- one is very soft and the other is a better version which is a hard plastic --- the hard plastic holds up much better - before you put the pad in -- mock it up with the fastners in place so you know right where they go -
line it all up and give the fastners a shot of wd-40 then push hard -- it should go in a bit easier , make sure all line up with the holes and dont forget any -- pulling it bk out may not be much fun.... good luck sir --let us know how it comes out . did it to my 57. |

I always use and awl, ice pick or tapered pin pinch to do alignments on everything requiring holes to be aligned. Was taught by an really old time machinist/engineer to do this everytime even when holes look good. It ensures hole are clear, smooths edges and assures correct alignment for the holes. Its funny now i'm the old time machinist/engineer.

Take an old screw driver. cut the end off so it is flat. Stick the driver in the end of the pad pin. Mark the depth then tack weld a washer just short of that depth so when you push the pad pin in it will not contact the tip of the pad pen. Worked perfect for me.
