Re: 66 longbed fleetside

Love the truck! The fact that you were able to get it fired up and running after 5 years of sitting is a true testament of how well those trucks were built back in the day. From the look in the background, did you buy it from that guy in Yermo that has a bunch of old trucks? It sounds like he's still got tons of them and he's trying to get rid of everything. He's been posting on Craigslist the last few weeks.

I live just over the rocks in Apple Valley, and I just bought a '64 C-20 in Hesperia last weekend. I'm looking for parts if you know anybody who's got some laying around.

i took my 66 for a ride today i was going to Fullerton but didn't make it the truck started over heating half way there so i stop and check the water and there was non so i let it cool down full it back up and disconnected the heater i was think the heater core maybe started to lick and full it back up and started it back up and look check out the motor to see it it was leaking out still and then see the fan was not turning i was like the the neck the belt was still there and then thought no way the harmonic balancer broke and it did so i had it tow home so i call around and ask for a harmonic balancer and autozone wanted 55 for the double grove pulley for the 250 and then i said i have a single grove pulley they said you must have a 230 motor then

can any one tell me what kind of motor i have here a pick of the motor and the pulley or do you guys need the number off the motor

Did you ever find out what motor you have?
For most the hardware the 230, 250, and 292 were pretty generic. Same intake/exhaust, alt, all that stuff was interchangeable if I am not mistaken. On the passenger side of your motor, below the spark plugs in the side of the block you have 2 plates with 3 bolts in them. Again if I am not mistaken, those are indicative of a 292. Especially if the truck was originally a 3/4 ton it would stand to reason that it would come with that inline 6, if not a 283.

You probably have a really low gear transmission too, if it is the original as well.

Doesn't hurt to run the block numbers in any case, know exactly what you are dealing with.

I like your work so far, you got me eyeballing those fender skirts, I have a stepside, but they certainly add something to your Fleetside!!

Good luck on your build!

Re: 66 longbed fleetside

If it's the original engine, most likely it's the 250. The 250 came out in 66 but running the numbers is the only way to be sure.
