Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Thanks Scott!

This pile of parts in my garage keeps growing, and I know folks are wondering whats up wit my hood hinges, and whats next for the truck (and the videos of course!).

Got a box coming in from Summit with some ARP head bolts (got a killer price on them), LS7 lifters, trays and more to go with all the good stuff already waiting to happen. I'm sooooo overdue to get this stuff done...and I'm really looking forward to the gains from the new work.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Spent the last few days pulling long ones in the garage w/ my dude Sandwiches. New heads are on, new poly mounts are in...and just test fitting up the Hedmann swap headers. Need some trimming to fit normally...but I like them this way.

Not gonna lie, anytime you do larger stuff like heads (especially when dealing with stressing little things like making sure the bolt holes are bone dry, and that the deck surface is clean enough) its nerve racking...not to mention the crazy torque sequences. These heads are going to bump compression, so ptvc is scary too, but we should be just in the clear on that one.

And of course, videos are on the way for all this. We still need to flush the coolant system now that everything is on, and do the same with the oil (I'm trying out that LiquiMole stuff for the first time too)...but hopefully she'll be fired up on the new setup tomorrow or possibly monday.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

I got to do a little tuning this weekend. I'm not an advanced tuner by any means, but I'm lucky enough to be extremely close with a professional tuner and oem engineer, who has been extremely gracious and generous in teaching me the art.

Typically, I'm the guy who does fab work, retrofits, "making stuff work", as well as does planning on the artistic side of design. This was my first go round with handling tuning (anything more complicated than the simple emissions shutoffs and VATS deletes that I learned early).

We had a CTS-V that needed a whole bunch of work, had waaay too much cam, and a ported TB that was nothing but trouble. Due to 100*+ temps, we did a late night tuning session, and had her idling and driving 2000% better by beer o'clock in the morning.

Working next to the trans-mega-thunder-chicken-am in the garage.

Oh, and the hood brackets for 60-66's w/ inner fender deletes' are FINALLY HERE!!!! I'll be working on the fit up and hope to have them installed this week!

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

More garage time over the last week. If you want to see more of these photos and more stuff from my build and random tuning stuff me and my guys do, make sure to follow me on Instagram @REV_J_HD or on twitter @wtfRevJ.

As you saw in the vid above, I'm now running Hedmann Hustler LS headers in the 66 now! It was time to fab up a new exhaust, and the choice was a dual 2.5" system with an Hpipe and some new "mufflers".

And got around to a little more tuning on her with the new setup. All I can say, is the gains are impressive.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Gonna break this up into a couple posts;

If you didn't see my other thread on it it, I ran into an issue with a leaking bleeder on my Wilwoods.
Here's the damage. Looks like a sloooooow leak from a poor quality stock bleeder fitting. I'm a little upset about it, as these were the stock fittings which I never removed, only ever bled (which shouldn't move the lower fitting at all!). My rims which are also powdercoated and exposed to that same brake fluid (it pooled in the rim), didn't bubble or suffer at all. I'm dissapointed that Wilwoods coating is so thin and easily damaged.

I kinda feel like a high performance (and expensive) brake caliper shouldn't leak from its bleeders...nor should it use goody "proprietary" bleeders either. The design seems to just create an additional point of plausible leak, and there is no other bleeder that would be able to eliminate the brass lower fitting that leaked.

So summit sells a replacement set of 4 for like $11, but then you need shipping and waiting 3-5 days...which I wanted no part of, bringin the total to around$19 for 4. I wanted a better solution, but calling parts stores didn't yield much.

The thread is 1/8-27 which is NPT. I found a few random part #'s in PDF displays from parts stores, and found something that actually lists as a "Repair Kit Part". This so called repair kit is actually the correct bleeder replacement! I crossed the part # over in the NAPA fittings and brakes catalog, and sure enough I could get one from the local main store for under $8.

I let some liquid thread sealant tack up on the fitting and installed it into the bleeder hole. It threads in perfectly, and seals fairly quickly. The bleeder portion seems to work as it should. Strangely, the wrenches that fit these are metric (my sae line wrenches didn't fit tight)...but everything else is pretty much the same. Snugged them up, and the leak seems to be corrected. Now if only I could FIX the powdercoat.

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

With the inner fenders out, it sure is easy to access everything.

Put in some work with those new hood mounts and finally got them together! Nothing is 100% as it seems with fitment on those old stamped parts, so I had to make sure that my plates had adaptability. The as-cut design was actually pretty spot on. I did a few little adjustments for fitment perfect to the firewall.

With some help, I slid it up into place then tac'd it up, adjusted the fit.

Then did the passenger side one first, in medium-long stitches with the MIG.

Once I dialed in the settings, I went ahead and buzzed her straight through. Pretty happy with the way these came out, especially since I was welding while standing IN the engine bay hehe.

Opens and closes smooth, and still has plenty of adjustment to account for various X-factors in old-truck fitment lol. The weight of the hood without springs does make it a bit tougher to open, but not difficult by any means. That same weight also puts lots of load on the outermost end of the brackets....so I'll be playing around with adding another brace/boxing that brace end just to stiffen it up, but it works well as-is for now..and then I'll consider adding a gas strut or something else to help with opening or holding open but thats a lesser priority.

Pics of her with the hood back on, and the bracket setup cleaned up/finished/coated to come.

I also got the color-work done on my Ed Roth inspired tattoo of the LS powered '66 C10, and my beloved meow. Just like the mods to the truck, I waited far too long to this mod to my skin. These are from a few moments after finishing, even more detail and subtlety in the shading and lines will happen as it heal in the next few days.

Follow up (healing) pics to come, as well as the video from this session if you are anything like me and enjoy watching it all happen!

We hit our annual track day at Gingerman Raceway again this year. We ended up running the F*rd Focus ST, lightly modded. We had to add some racing friendly brakes, which led to a late night test/bed session. They get HOT!

Another excerpt from the Gingerman Track Day this year. Here's the full session from our friend Jon, and his 2v 4.6 Mustang GT. Pretty simple car, out having fun for the 6 lap session on the long-version Gingerman Road Course. More to come!

Still using the truck manifold? Will you be upgrading when funds allow? I thought you were going to turbo it, did you decide it was too much plumbing or is your truck your daily driver?

Re: Br3w City's Project omgwtfbbq

Ya I'm still using the truck intake. The original goal years ago after the original swap was to turbo it, but then I came into those new heads as a wedding gift from my tuner/engineer. With the bump in compression, its really snappy (and still responds very well to a 150 shot)...so the focus had shifted slightly to improving the chassis to put it all down. I would really like to switch to something like a hi-ram, but it will only happen once I need to get bigger injectors again.

We still have a D1 procharger on the floor, 3 different B&W turbo's (woohoo for at cost pricing), and a 2 stage 300kit which could at some point make their way under the hood. The Ws6 is getting a whole new subframe/suspension/minitub as well in the off season, as well as one of the above^ so needless to say my attention is divided lol.
