Not easily, it is casted into the handle. I've done it before but I used a lathe, drill press, and dremel tool in that order.

Re: How To Remove The Lock Cylinder From A Blazer Hatch Handle

Good info here! So say I am able to get my original out of my hatch. Then I am able to get the cylinder out. Now - I need a key. Where do I find one?

The original poster LockDoc. If you send him one of your keys he can match it so the same key works the doors and handle.

LockDoc just keyed a handle for me last week. Big thanks! I've got the handle out to be re-chromed right now.

I kinda figured he could do it. Thanks. I didn't know a door key was used. Guess I never tried one. Thought it was one of those mailbox sort of keys.

That may be the case but the door key will work.

Re: How To Remove The Lock Cylinder From A Blazer Hatch Handle

Actually last year I bought an NOS hatch lock assembly off ebay and it had a square key like the ignition. I believe so anyhow I will have to dig it out and take a look.

Re: How To Remove The Lock Cylinder From A Blazer Hatch Handle

When it comes to making the square stock that fits over your handle . I was able to find a company that sells this stock . If comes in two or three inch lengths and only 1/2 inch diameter . I was able to machine down a piece of pipe with inside diameter 1/2 inch and outside diameter I had to machine down to look like the original part with a 'c' clip grove for reassembly . Once it was machined down I merely welded the square hole shaft to the new piece of pipe already machined down . The picture below is what the part I machined looks like that fits over the square holed shaft looks like . Again can also be done on drill press if patient . If having trouble email he at srpenner@hotmail.com

The square stock and the pipe pictured below was able to build a couple parts and have a spare for sale . The square stock was not cheap (about $75) but if your wanting your build to closely resemble the original part then this is your best coarse of action .

Re: How To Remove The Lock Cylinder From A Blazer Hatch Handle

OK. So mine was stuck all kinds of ways. I sheared the pin off at the end of the cylinder. Is there any way to fix this or do I just need another one? Any body got one?

Re: How To Remove The Lock Cylinder From A Blazer Hatch Handle

Did the handle use the same key as the doors and ignition? Or was it a completely different type of key? Mine came with the original handle, but no key that worked.

Re: How To Remove The Lock Cylinder From A Blazer Hatch Handle

I wish this thread existed in the mid-2000's when I bought mine. I pitched that handle and replaced it with a garage door unit. Now I wish I had the original handle back!
