The seals on outside of my 14 bolt full floater need replacing. On one side it leaked into the brake drum and get all over the brake shoes, cause the brakes to grab and shear the output off of my sm465 4 speed.

I see that there is an inner seal (timken #2081). But nobody show an outer seal. There is a thin metal shim/seal/gasket that is in between the axle flange and the hub. I do see that felpro #55350 looks simular.

Is this the proper seal for the outside? Does this steel gasket need any sealant on it?

I have searched this website and general google but have come up empty.

The axle seal that got your breaks oily is inside the rear hub by the inner rear bearing. you have to remove the break drum to see the seal.

I purchased the inner seal along with the bearings and races. I juat want to make sure I am doing things correctly.

What am i supposed to do at the outside of the hub and axle flange?

you can use some silcone. I prefer the ultra grey

You can get gaskets from local auto parts store for the axle flanges and use some sealant with the gaskets to seal up the out side.

Check spindle seal surface carefully as it may need a speedy sleeve and seal.

With speedy seals do they use some kind of oversized seals?

When installing the bearings, do I just coat them with gear oil or pack them with grease?

Some guys pack them in grease, as extra insurance in case they don't get oiled right away. I figure they are made to run in oil so why add grease? As a disclaimer I'm not a mechanic, just an occasional weekend wrench when I need to be. Been into my HO52 a few times over the years and never had any bearing damage from oil starvation.

The speedy sleeve is very thin and works with the standard seal.
Also my manual says to pack the bearings on HO52. Its pretty cheap insurance, I'd rather pack them than take it all apart again to replace bearings.
