s10-AD swap brake question

On my 1995 s10 brakes, mounted on the driver firewall is a big bulky unit with brake lines, wiring and connectors and bleeders. What is it and do I need it? There is a small block on a bracket at the booster that I assume is my proportioning valve?...but if the big conglomeration on the firewall is it, it is huge.

Re: s10-AD swap brake question

Antilock brake setup? After looking at a 95 on Ebay 321814505811 I'd think that is what you have and if it were me I'd get a simpler Master cylinder/booster combination for an earlier S-10 or an aftermarket setup.

Most of the S-10 swap guys don't get into trucks that new as donor rigs so it isn't a big issue yet.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: s10-AD swap brake question

Thanks mr48chevy. Yeah it finally dawned on me its the ABS setup. Not used to late model stuff. Just wasn't thinking.

I wouldn't think it would be a problem to use the master and booster tho? just eliminate the ABS and get an early proportioner?

Re: s10-AD swap brake question

I don't know how those are set up so I am no help on work or no work as far as the master cylinder and booster. My only experience in that area is on a 91 Dodge mini van and the anti lock setup was a mega dollar contraption that even if you replaced it you weren't guarenteed it would work. I replaced that setup with a stock booster and master cylinder and ended up using my junk yard pieces for cores.

Re: s10-AD swap brake question

I had that exact same problem when I used a 1996 S10 Blazer as the donor vehicle. here are some before and after pics from removing the anti-lock brake unit. Brakes work great without it... just has the light on the dash always lit.
