On the vehicle in question - why again can't you show the entire VIN plate?
It was just the way I took the picture. I was trying to cover up the last 6, kind of useless now after the frame and build sheet pics. I know I glossed over that thread atleast once before posting, to make sure I wasn’t posting a dumb question. I’ll scrub again to make sure I didn’t skim over something.

If needed I can get a full photo.

If the build sheet did have the year(besides from the vin) it has been destroyed from decades of temperature change and mice.

Re: VIN question

Most VIN related questions I've seen are easily answered by simple research, but this one is perplexing. I'm no expert and have no answers, so I'll be watching how this evolves.

Re: VIN question

What im seeing is an original tag. Since only 1960-1964 came with the 1 in front of the C , and by the looks of the VIN , its most likely an early built truck which would also explain the rivets , possibly Built in 1964 for the 1965 production year. If you could show the last of that VIN , looks like theres an 8 in the last part. Now compare the font of that 8 with other tags from Fremont , if its flat at the top I would definitely say its an original tag because it would be very rare for any stamp to duplicate that font.

It is an early production, that was the one thing I was debating. But wouldn’t they have stamped it with a 4 instead of a 1? I read (on here) how GMC was pushing 65s as 66s so they could sell before the 67-72 run came out. Could this be one of those possibilities? I am fairly sure there will be no true answer coming out of this just a lot of possibilities. I still know the PO and I know he had it for a number of years. Because of the color and the fact he likes to buy surplus style auction rigs, I believe it might have been a state rig or someone who had a Large fleet.

Great looking Suburban by the way! That is a dream of mine!

Re: VIN question

My point is , I think its a mistake , the 1 that is. Its early in the year with some changes made . Ive never heard of them pushing 65-66s , would like to read that. As for this Suburban , wish it were mine ! Was just digging through a stack of Fremont papers marked Suburban , I found the car shipper order for that Suburban. Wonder who has it now ?

Re: VIN question

Recap for anyone interested.

I went to a local Chevy dealership and when they "decoded" my VIN they told me it was a 65 out of Fremont. (Shocking I know)

So there is no "answer" in this, just a random number spliced in. I would not have seen it if I did not take the globs of paint off of the plate.

Thanks all for your help.
