47 3/4 ton brakes
Am rebuilding a 1947 3/4 ton chevy truck. Can't find new brake drums for the truck. Seem to have plenty of 53 brake drums. Is there a way to put 53 brakes on a 47 frame? Will upgrade brakes if it can be done. Want truck to look original to the average person but will make upgrades on several things if possible.

After looking at parts have decided to keep stock. No parts will interchange and do not want to buy all new axels. Guess I just need to find some new front brake drums somewhere.

I have a 50 3/4 ton and just rebuilt the brakes. Drums are near impossible to find for them unfortunately.
If your drums are reasonable and have some meat left you can have them machined. My drums are on their last run and whilst the shop wasn't prepared to machine them down any further, they made up the new shoes with thickness to suit the wear of each individual drum. This will keep me going at least until these new shoes are worn and by that stage I will upgrade. Maybe you could do the same so and then take your time deciding which way you want to go. They used that style of brakes up through 1950 (according to O'Reilly's brake shoe listing) before switching to Bendix brakes. Having up through 1950 to choose from might ease the search up a bit and probably the best you can hope for is to find someone doing a frame or suspension swap who has pulled the old stuff off and hasn't scrapped it yet.

the only difference i know of is the parking brake. try looking up jim carter truck parts. if he does not have what you are looking for odds are he will know were to find them. just email him on the sight. he helped me out on my truck and finding the dealer option windshield washer sprayers.
