i believe bartman referenced using 4" square tubing, 1/4" thick.

Thanks iowaboynca, yes he did, but I want to build the actual mounts in the picture which require bending and bartman just used them as a reference for different mounts utilizing square tubing. 1/4 can be a biotch to bend and thinking a bit overkill.

The reason I asked is because I have been reading all the threads including Skymangs and at some point I thought I remembered reading that the thickness for building the mounts in the actual drawing was 1/8 with 3/16 caps but I am not sure and I've read so many threads cant seem to find it again.

"Cab mounts were templated and built from 1/8 wall steel. The top plates are 3/16" steel. As always, I kick my cab stand legs out at a 15 degree angle to reduce the stress of a vertical weld on the frame."

Here's how I did mine (Post 50, 51 and 65). I liked the idea of cutting them from a piece of 4x4 11 GA tubing, no bending or extra welding.

Very nice Hussey! def. good idea not to have to sheer and bend for a guy like me with limited resources.

Only question I have is on your plans (awesome also) your heights WITH the body mount bushings (4" front and 3 1/2' + the 1x2 for a total of 4 1/2 back) are similar to the other drawings heights WITHOUT the bushings

Is that just because you are wanting your cab lower or am I missing something?



Are your heights such that altho you need a partial trans tunnel, your driveshaft clears under floor?

I have to find time to read your whole thread now! Looks like an exceptional build.

Yes, I wanted to get the cab a little lower. I referenced 99_to_life project details (post 101):

4 in. seemed to work out well. I'm also running 2 in. drop spindles up front. It's kind of a balancing act setting the height of the cab, the steering linkage, and motor height. It will require a tranny hump in the floor but wont require a drive shaft tunnel. Any lower I think you'll need to put in a tunnel for the drive shaft.

Are you using this measurement to locate your cab?

Most builders locate the cab off the oval hole in the chassis. From the front of the oval hole to the center-line of the front cab mount is 4 in. Or, from the front of the oval hole to the edge of the cab mount is 2 in. (assuming you're making the cab mount from 4x4 in. tubing.
