My 1979 2WD K5 Cheyenne

There she was. 1979, same year as me. Minor front end damage but it looked pretty solid. Original-ish paint. Price looked right, but I figured it was already gone...
What the hell, I called and the owner said it was available. From Texas and solid he said. I went to look at it the next morning. With no intention of really buying it, I just wanted to see if I still wanted one.
Well I bought it. That was July 1st. Sold my VW Bus to fund the few things I wanted to fix right off the bat. New harmonic balancer, AC compressor, evaporator, etc. Just stuff to be able to drive it daily. Yeah its my only vehicle.
My old lady has named it "Patty" as in Peppermint Patty.
Here she was when I went to look at her.

Re: My 1979 2WD K5 Cheyenne

I saw these 22" GM Transport wheels and instantly wanted them. Got a set. Had to order 2" thick 5 to 6 lug adapters.
I ordered 2.5" McGaughys drop spindles and a Rear Flip kit. We cut the flat coil off the front. And since I hadn't ordered new shocks for the rear, we used some front shocks out back.
I also snagged a similar colored fender with railroad trim from Craigslist. Ordered some headlight bezels and a new black grille. A friend straightened out the core support as best he could.
Here it was with the wheels and lowered.

Re: My 1979 2WD K5 Cheyenne

Well 22x9s with 255/30s on this truck ride terrible. I put about 300 of the worst miles on them and decided they needed to go. I guess theres a reason most k5s with 22s have bags.
I ended up with a set of van rallys for cheap and threw some new white walls on. Put new bushings and ball joints up front and brakes all the way around.
Had a friend give me his rebuilt quadrajet and I ordered a front bumper. My exhaust was hitting the rear end, so we cut if off and added dual flowmaster 40s. The old lady got me a set of Nitro Drop 2 shocks and drop springs for the front. Put those on last week. I havent put on the rears yet. I think that may bring the back up a little.
Im pretty happy with it for now. I still need to order some hinges and I need an idle stop solenoid for when I turn on the AC. Idle drops too low. But it's cold and Im not in a rush.
It's been well worth the wait. I love cruising in this beast. I hope to do more to it as time and money allows. Thanks!

The van rallies and whitewalls look much better. That is one of my favorite two-tones on the round eye squares, looks good!

Re: My 1979 2WD K5 Cheyenne

BigMike - The whitewalls are some cheapos.. Hercules brand 235/75r15 They cost me $68 a tire.

lowrodder - I picked up the bumper on eBay, from summitracing_sales. $143 shipped. I almost ordered from LMC, but if I remember correct, they wanted to add $20 for oversize package. I'm happy with this one.
Im going to be ordering a rear as well. Mine has a little bend on top near the passenger side.

And thanks for the kind words guys

How does it ride in the rear with the flip? Any issues with bottoming?

Willow- There were a few times when it would bottom out.. Seemed that the rearend and the drive shaft were hitting, but we notched a little out of the cross member and haven't had any problems since. New tranny mount helped a lot too.
