68 gmc engine perch location

hello, i need a little help. i tried to search but i get conflicting info. i have a 68 gmc short bed 2wd. i think it came with a 307 and a turbo 400. (according to a hard written receipt from the dealer) it had no engine when i got it and the frame was already sandblasted and painted. the engine perches are mounted in the 2 rear holes ( closest to the cab) i thought that the v-8's were in the front holes. if i try to move them to the forward holes they don't fit right and the bottom hole doesn't line up. are there different perches for the front holes?

thanks Bryan

The engine perches for the V8's are different than ones for the sixes. I suspect you have 6 cyl perches that won't fit in the front location. Check in the parts for sale section, the V8 perches come up for sale onc in a while.

Re: 68 gmc engine perch location

Check the SPID.
CS = 2WD L6
CM = " V6
CE = " V8
If the SPID doesn't list displacement as a 327 or 350 V8, then it was a 307. Or a 250 if it was an L6 truck.

Re: 68 gmc engine perch location

my truck does not have a SPID i thought it was just gone but when i was looking for some info here i saw that some gmc's didn't have one. the vin is CE
the mounts are in the rear holes. I'm putting in a 5.3 vortec. even with the dirty dingo sliders all the way forward there is only about a 1/4 inch clearance at the rear of the valve covers. is it possible that the 307 mounts or a turbo 400 trans would have mounts in the rear holes?
thanks Bryan

Usually when a V8 engine was mounted in these trucks rear holes were for standard trans and front holes were for automatic trans.
