97 Tahoe 5.7 p1345 code solved

I have had this code for many years and I did some research on it, but didn't resolve it until this past weekend.

I'm not a professional mechanic so I did not know that my cap and rotor issues are directly affected by the P1345 code. I also think my p0430 code was caused by the P1345 issue. I cleared the codes 2 days ago and neither have returned. My theory is when the crank/cam position correlation was off, it was causing the misfire probably putting too much unburned fuel down the exhaust possibly causing the P0430 code (catalytic converter is not functioning efficiently).

I was under the impression that the distributor was in a fixed position and a fancy scan tool was required to make any adjustments to solve this issue.

Thanks to a guy on you tube, he shows how you can take an old cap and modify it to watch the spark for cyl #5. see below.

I took this video as I adjusted it.

Here is a 2nd video of it resolved.

This is the video that helped me resolve this issue. He did something different with the dist. hold down bracket that I didnt need to do. Mine had room for adjustment.

All feedback is welcome and I hope this helps someone else with this issue.

Thanks!
Steve
