That's an EGR port, right? I would just make a plate to seal it off. But then again it is my thinking process.

Yeah I guess that would have worked well too.

I painted them with some VHT high temp...



and put them on.

Well it's been a good long while since I've posted, August 8th to be exact. Once the college semester got started I just never found any time to work on it. Well now it's winter break and I've got 30 days of glory.

Today I started on changing the rear main seal and outer gasket. It has been leaking oil. Got into and it appears to be the outer metal gasket that was leaking, not the rear main.



Removing the bolts attaching the flywheel to the torque converter.



I'll finish this in the morning.

I have to agree.

So I turns out that the O'reileys brand rear main seal is not up to OEM standards. I've found several reports of them going out quick, so I'm gonna pick up an OEM one probably tomorrow.

Let me just say that I'm not doing the swap because the old 350 was a bad engine, because it was an excellent engine. It was surprisingly reliable with 300k miles on it and a lot more left in it. I'm doing the swap because these newer LQ's are so dang good. I hope to see solid horsepower gains, slightly better fuel economy, more reliability, and just more coolness.

The trans cooling lines were trashed from the wreck. So why not use the lines off of the old 700r4? Luckily the fittings from the 700r4 (left) are completely compatible with the 4l60e (right).

I got it backwards. It is 700r4 on the right, 4l60e on the left.

Before I forget - make sure to replace exhaust manifold bolts with high quality heat treated bolts. Do not skip on this as it is well known weak point in all LQ/LS installations:

A new exhaust manifold bolt and torque specification was introduced to the GEN III Vortec(TM) small block V8 engines beginning with the 2004 model year. When servicing any GEN III Vortec(TM) small bock exhaust manifolds, the exhaust manifold bolts should be replaced.

- P/N 11518860 Exhaust Manifold Bolts

Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) wide bead of high temperature threadlocker to the threads of the exhaust manifold bolts before installing.

- P/N 12345493 - GM High Temperature High Strength Threadlocker (U.S.)
- P/N 10953488 - GM High Temperature High Strength Threadlocker (Canada)


When tightening the exhaust manifold bolts it should be done with two passes. First tighten the two center bolts on the exhaust manifold. Then tighten the rest of the bolts, alternating from side to side, while working towards the outside bolts.

Install the exhaust manifold bolts.

Refer to the following torque sequence:

Tighten
Tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in) on the first pass.
Tighten to 20 N.m (15 lb ft) on the final pass.

I definitely am going to make some charts to save.

So here is what I think I am going to do with my fuel system. I have read of some people that have done it with no problems. It is running an inline fuel pump in front of the switch for the dual tanks. This is what I have been running for 3 1/2 years with no problems, granted it was a low pressure pump.



The dark grey is high pressure rubber hose and the silver is the original fuel lines off of the 2001 truck. Anyone have major objections?

I got myself a fuel pump. Big thanks to Mark (Crash_OK). If you haven't seen his build thread, you should. It is, in my opinion the best 4X4 build on this site and on of the best builds on here period.

Bout time I tackled the fuse block.

Putting terminals and grommets (because it's going to be in the engne bay) on first.







Placing jumpers in first.





Then all of the power wires.



Then the fuses and relays.



This was an interesting process. Just make sure you double, triple, and quadruple check before soldering stuff. I had to do many things over again.
