Until recently I have never heard of a Sierra Custom Package for our trucks, but it exists.

What have you learned new about these truck recently.

I learned that 67 to 70 high beam Indicator is different from 71 72. It a rectangle not circular like the 71 72. I also learned you to remove the steering column. Did it yesterday. Super easy once you get it separated from the intermediate shaft.

Funny thing, Ive customized engines, overhauled transmissions, rebuilt differentials etc., but didn't know the bench seat in my truck would actually fold forward if I lifted the vinyl and removed one of the two bolts on each side. I have spent much time scouring salvage yard for a useable bench seat that folds forward. Wow! I used to remove the seat if I wanted access to the fuel tank area, never checked to see the attachment beyond the bolts through the floor! That has become an important discovery for me. Guess I should have asked.

That 67's have a one year only ashtray, of all things. Probably common knowledge for most of you, but perplexing to me when I tried to swap one from a 67 to a 68.

Something every day just by reading this board. An amazing wealth or knowledge and experience.

Latest is that the oil fill tube is pressed in.
If PCV valve is clogged it was create pressure.
To remove rear drums , you have to pull axles

Etc, etc, etc.

I know, basic stuff but all new to me

I just recently did a search and learned that the front marker lights on a 67 are supposed to go out when the headlights come on. Thought I still had an electrical issue until I did a quick search. Also found out how you can make them stay on but I'm not sure which way I lean right now. Leave them off or have them on with the headlights.

I just learned that the a/c compressor kicks on on my '67 whenever the blower motor is turned on...regardless whether it is on heat or a/c. I looked underneath to see if something was mis-wired, but everything looks factory. Maybe it's right?

Yeah, I can't believe I never cheched that. Always just looked for the standard release latch and there wasn't one so thought I was stuck. When I finally surrendered the search for a foldable seat, I was determined to make the necessary hardware and started pulling the vinyl. Lo and behold, two bolts on each side. I reasoned that one could, just could be a pivot bolt so I removed the other and, wadda you know, a folding seat. I was both elated and scornful of myself for not checking earlier.

I was on quite a run but nothing lately. Last thing I learned was tailgate latch rods attach using push-through spring clips.....Nothing to write home about.

I've learned that you better learn as much about your truck as possible and fast and be willing to do your own repairs. It is getting real hard to find a mechanic that can fix anything without a code reader in their hand. Sites like this are next to God when you have a problem. Keep up the good work eh. Have a good one.

PS. I've been to many AC shops to fix my AC and same answer, we can't find any thing wrong, everything is working. I found an "old" guy and he solved it right away. Everything was working and so was the heat valve when calling for AC. The crazy valve was stuck open so was heating my cool air. I'm freezing now and still on R12, no leaks, no change.

I recently learned that the aftermarket upgrade A/C POA valve sold for these trucks and a lot of other GM vehicles, is actually a P.O.S. valve....junk! Don't waste your money, get a rebuildable original and keep your sanity.

I forgot I recently learned 71-72ish tailgate latch bolts are stamped RSC. I was missing one of four for my project, go figure my 72 had four

A little over a year ago (does that count as recent?), I learned that all '72 3/4 ton trucks came with power brakes, and therefore, the power brakes option is not listed on the SPID for 3/4 ton trucks in '72.

The compressor has a switch inside the cab on the backside of the diverter box vent that the control cable from the control head operates and kicks the compressor on. The fan switch should not turn it on if it's all factory correct. But who knows.

Follow the cable to the box and you'll find the switch on the back side.

Nothing concrete yet but a member posted that his Spid shows front and rear sway bars. I know our trucks came with a front sway bar but have never heard of or seen a factory rear sway bar on our trucks. No pic of the Spid but the member says he will take one and post it and if a rear sway bar was available on our trucks that will be what I have recently learned about our trucks.

Well I'd love to be able answer your question but I have no idea who Benny is.
My original POA valve was a Delco brand which can be cleaned and recalibrated (if still good) but not rebuilt, the Fridgidare brand can be opened up and rebuilt. Original Air Products has a service for these but it is quite pricey.

I found a good used Frigidare brand on eBay that had been cleaned, tested and calibrated for R134 for a reasonable price, I figured if it ever goes bad I have a rebuildable core....works like a charm as is.

Ha ha, sorry, F.A.A.benny used to frequent the board, I haven't seen of him in a long while. He does a nice job restoring A/C to new, it's not cheap either, and probably add another $200 shipping. Interesting information, I'll have to check my POA, my guess it's Delco.

I have been slowly fixing my GMC. There are alot of parts that are interchangeable between The chevy's and GMC but not everything. And every so often I find something that won't inter mix. Like I have been changing my lights and turn signals over to LED's. They do not make a LED for my front turn signals. They also don't repop the housing for them, at least I haven't found any.

They do make the housing lmc has them. They dont make the plug for the light though. ( I know I need one) might have found one but haven't ordered it yet. As for the LEDs I have a set made by rob. The first ever set actually. Not the first installed. But are with clear lenses.

Hey, you gotta elaborate on that one... Are you talking about the orange Blazer that looks 100% original paint and has light yellow on the SPID? (it also had avocado plaid trim I believe) Or at least that's what it was ordered with, dunno if it showed up at the dealer that way or if the factory just built the original owner a totally different blazer than he asked for. Anyway, if none of this rings a bell... pls disregard
