Re: Engine ID help

YUP

V,, Flint engine plant
0401 (April 1st (yes april fools day) the year is decoded from the letter code.

DDD=
1983 305 cu. in.
Roch E4ME carb.
Engine VIN 'H' (designated the LG4 145HP)
4bbl carb
Instaled in F B G body chassis

From the partial VIN in the (1G...) block it was installed in a G body

(from wikipedia)

This "G" body family consisted of:

Buick Regal (1978–1987)
Chevrolet El Camino (1978–1987)
Chevrolet Malibu (1978–1987)
Chevrolet Monte Carlo (1978–1988)
GMC Caballero (1978–1987)
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (1978–1988) note: 1988 model known as Cutlass Supreme Classic
Oldsmobile Cutlass Cruiser (1982–1983)
Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon (1986–1987)
Pontiac Bonneville (1982–1986)
Pontiac Grand Prix (1978–1987)

In 1982, the Chevy Malibu/Pontiac LeMans coupes were dropped along with the Buick/Olds fastbacks. 1983 was the last year for wagons and Chevy Malibu sedans, leaving the G-Special coupes, B-O-P formal-roof sedans and the Chevy El Camino/GMC Caballero. In 1988, most remaining G-body models were moved to the new front wheel drive GM W platform, although the Pontiac Bonneville moved to the H-body, the El Camino was dropped without replacement.

Re: Engine ID help

Well that's disappointing...... the other numbers that were on the DS rear of the block, were GM 5.0LG that's it I took pics of those last night in the dark and they weren't very good so I checked as soon as I got home from work and confirmed. And here I was thinking it had the original motor. Well at least I have a good Goodwrench 350 sitting on my engine stand waiting to be freshened up. Why on earth would someone put a weak engine in a 3/4 ton 4x4????
Thanks guys for making my day (LOL)
When I seen the numbers on the back of the block I had a feeling it wasn't going to be good news.
I love this website.

When I checked the truck VIN this truck came with a 400SB
