Heater blower motor "squirrel cage"

Is the "squirrel cage" that mounts to the heater blower motor available aftermarket or am I looking at a trip to the wrecking yard to try and find a suitable replacement?
This goes on a 79 with heater only- Don't know if factory A/C versus heater only matters.
Thanks, Lane.

Re: Heater blower motor "squirrel cage"

Good deal. One more question- Can you buy them as a separate unit or do you have the buy the entire assembly?- Blower motor and squirrel cage?

Re: Heater blower motor "squirrel cage"

NAPA has blower motor w/o cage
and the cage sells seperately

Re: Heater blower motor "squirrel cage"

i dont know if this will apply to you, but my dad has a 73 w/ac and he replaced it with the blower out of a 94 ext cab chevy. moves like 75% more air and fits right up... dont know if it will fit yours though

Re: Heater blower motor "squirrel cage"

Thanks for the responses. I bought a new blower wheel at NAPA today, fit tested it when I got home and it would not make up in the opening ( Too deep). It was NAPA PN 655-1412 which showed to fit a heavy duty heater??
I checked NAPA on-line and they list PN 655-1039 for a standard duty heater.
Guess I'll have to keep trying till I find the right combination. Seems that either way the shaft is too long for the depth of the wheel and it requires a spacer to be able to snug it up a little. Does that sound right???

Re: Heater blower motor "squirrel cage"

I have a '75 A/C truck, and found that there were two versions of A/C the blower motor listed in most parts books. One has a longer motor shaft than the other. I think both work, but you need to have the cage match the blower motor.

I can look up the parts number I finally bought (had to exchange the first one).

Ive only messed with mine one time. I ended up buying both new and they fit together. The new fan and old blower didnt work.

Re: Heater blower motor "squirrel cage"

75GMCK25- Appreciate the feedback, but I located what I needed through NAPA on-line. Ended up buying matching blower motor and fan for the "standard heater" and they fit like a glove.
