77k10 with a bad th350

Looking at my first; nice 77K10 Long fleet 350/350. the tranny is bad dont know what than means. less than 100 K on the truck. origonal owner. az rust free. 1500$.

my question is: would it be worth it to rebuild the th350 or put an auto od in it.

Or

Go with a np4500

I'm leaning towards rebuilding the 350

I would have it rebuilt professionally.

opinions

Personally, I'd have the TH-350 professionally rebuilt. A quality tranny shop can rebuild it in a day for a reasonable amount of $$$.

Re: 77k10 with a bad th350

Changing it to an overdrive would require moving the transfer case and changing both driveshaft lengths. Mileage would improve as well as less engine wear, But it would take a long time to recoup the investment.

what are your plans for the truck? to me that would dictate what kind of upgrades to do with it, if any

Do an oil psi check on the trans & see if it is really something inside or just the torque converter gone bad.

Re: 77k10 with a bad th350

Tire size and diff gear ratio? Depending on those, an overdrive may wind up with too low an engine RPM in OD and actually hurt mileage.

If you have the TH350 rebuilt, might have the shop check over the transfer case while you are at it.

Re: 77k10 with a bad th350

I never rebuild anything until it dies first. My 76 K10 has 185k miles on the original drivetrain and I still drive it down the interstate.
