looking at this for my k30 project beater . will be th400/4.10 gear / 33.30 tire height . plow truck / trailer puller / work truck / dd use .

whats your guys feedback on this unit ?

Not bad for 2k. Dunno if its original or what, but my 98 Tahoe odometer says 253k, and with 3.42s it will get up and go. Slap a carb on it and will prolly run pretty good. Thinking this might be an option when time comes to replace my motor.

Much better motor than the other crates.
Good heads, compression and better matched cam.

I have about 45000 on mine now in the 66. Mild comp cam, super victor intake, 670 street avenger carb. I have an in tank pump with an aeromotive return style regulator. works flawless.

i was planning on slapping a holley snipper on it .

the balancer and cover that comes on it have a timming pointer and marks ? i cant tell in the pics . since i will be running a hei dist with vac advance .

If you want to wake that L31 up put a HT383 Crate/Ramjet 350 cam in it - part number 14097395.

yep seen that a LOT of guys do it as a bolt in swap cam .

its 196.00 for the cam . . . and its on my order list .

A L31 engine with the Ram Jet 350/HT383 cam is a great running engine. It makes great torque even with the 1.5 rockers.

I had the sniper on mine and pulled it. Had a bad habit of just shutting off going down the hiway. Go on the holley forums and go through the sniper section. They are having some issues.

Looking at this engine for a swap too. Just keep in mind since you are not putting this in the specified vehicle the warranty is only going to be 12 months.

Jeggs has had this on sale in for somewhere around $1850 I think.

The GM L31 engine is one of the best values out there. One piece rear main seal, roller cam and Vortec heads. Great combo as long as you can deal with it not supporting a mechanical fuel pump. You need to use a Vortec specific manifold and flex plate/flywheel for a 1 piece rear seal but outside of that, they are great.

That is exactly why I keep coming back to the engine for my swap. I would like more performance than this, but anything with more power is higher and doesn't have all the goodies this one has. Plus, per Scoggins Dickey it has 330 Ft. Lbs of torque at 2800 rpms. Right were you drive it most times.

Yes, you can do a cam swap but then that voids the warranty.

why pay more for a reman motor and less goodys inside . . . not that it dosnt sound like a bad motor but the 1 i linked is 1880 free shipping on ebay from a few places all day long .

check out the GMPP 350 HO Crate engine...its the same L31 Vortec, rated at 330 HP 380 ft lb torque...

dont have a few items to run out of the box you need to buy and its a flat tappet cam option . and power is up top more than the other by the looks of it .

nice option but i dont think its for me and my build. i am doing a k30 work truck and dont need to get crazy . i have other trucks for that .

Yeah, it sucks that GM put a flat tappet cam in this engine, even though it's setup for a factory roller cam.

But if you buy the L31 engine and the Ram Jet 350/HT383 cam you'll easily get that much power, but it will be in a lower power band and you'll have a roller cam.

and for a big heavy truck you need the power band lower than up top .
