63 Rochester 4 jet carb kit

I'm pulling my carb and buying a rebuild kit .. Its been sitting to long and carb cleaner is doing nothing to help .. I've found online 2 kits from different manufacturers that include "detailed instructions" .. This will be my first carb and are these kits user friendly or should I take it to a shop ?

Hey! You're here because you're a truck hobbyist. I vote for doing it yourself because nobody will do it for your truck like you will. Finding an "expert" on the old 4jet might be hard. Carefully pull that thing apart, take lots of pics, read as much as you can, find out what the typical problems are (where they wear or get clogged up, etc.) and set it up as throughly as you can.

That's solid advice .. I've seen the kits don't come with new floats so those will be an area of extreme caution while handling and cleaning !!!

I just finished rebuilding a 4GC using a Mike's Carburetor Parts kit - http://www.carburetor-parts.com/4-Je...its_c_566.html. The rebuild kits don't usually come with floats, so double check that yours are in good condition, and if you need to buy new ones confirm the type and shape. It's not too difficult. There are some detailed videos available to view to help with dis-assembly and assembly, so I would recommend taking your time and doing it yourself.

The one I got was sitting out in the elements for awhile and pretty rusty. I have a friend who does dichromate re-finishing, so when I disassembled everything, I sent him the body, etc. I also went with an electric choke conversion on mine to eliminate the heat exchange and crossover parts.

Starting to re-assemble:

I pulled the top horn cover off .. If I remove the the float bowl hinge pins will the float balance springs come undone or does it remain as one complete unit with the float bowls ??. .. I would hate to f#+k up the tiny springs
