Re: Turning radius/ratio

there's nothing wrong with the mechanics that makes the truck turn (as far as i can tell, but that's not saying much) there's no grinding, no rubbing, nothing i can see or hear. i just think the truck's turning radius is horrible, it needs like 6 lanes to do a "U-turn" and was wondering if there is anything i can do about it.

thanks!!

Re: Turning radius/ratio

if its turning all the way to the stops on the axle there isnt much you will be able to do. you may be able to turn the stops in some more so that it turns a little more but just make sure if you do it dosnt creat other clearence isues.

Re: Turning radius/ratio

An open knuckle axle will help your turning problem. My 69 has the closed knuckle and with the 35 x 12.5 tires it sure sucks to manuver in a parking lot! I can't tell you how much the open knuckle will help but you would also benefit from updating the axle as you will gain disk brakes!

Re: Turning radius/ratio

I can personally tell you from experience, IF you adjust out the turn stop bolts, it places much more strain on the axle u-joints. When your wheels are turned sharp and you apply very much torque, the front axles and u-joints are very easy to destroy.

Re: Turning radius/ratio

It's a whole lot tighter, I went to an open knuckle D44 on my 67 and now I can do a single U-turn on a wide 2-lane. You will wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
