Thanks. The replacement engine is with the rebuilder. I gotta pull the trans and have it rebuilt as well.

All I need is time...

Good luck, and keep this post updated so we know how it's going. Oh, and you might want to add "MONEY" to the "all I need" list.

I believe I have that covered for this issue. Hopefully no surprises.

I appreciate the fact you that you seem to genuinely love your long-bed and 350/350. I was beginning to think I am weird for liking my unloved long bed GMC....

Well, I like the lexan chaparral in your profile picture (and know what it is...)

So we are a rare breed indeed.

Some people will disagree but flat tappet cams like zinc.If your oil doesn’t have zinc they will sometimes destroy lobes.

I made sure to buy the recommenced additive from the cam manufacturer for the break in.

Is it a 2c or something? All I know is they got banned quick due to using fans to hold them to the ground (like a reverse hovercraft lol). I only know this due to gran turismo!

That fan business got a bad rap from all the crud it lifted off the track and obscured the view for the guys behind it.

Re: Blew up the truck, deciding on a cam and trans upgrades

Made some progress. Got the old motor and trans out. Cant tell if the crank broke at the 1/2 journal then grenaded #1 piston, but the piston and rod are done (oh and the crank). Couldn't rotate the crank so the converter had to come out with the motor.

While out, I had the trans rebuilt at Transmission Masters in Santa Ana, CA. My son and I installed the motor and trans this weekend.
