Angry Everybody please read !!!

I didn't put this on general discussion because I wanted everyone to see. Some of you are in my email address book, I received a virus tonight, fortunately my anti-virus caught it and deleted it, but my computer attempted to send it to everyone in my address book!!! It looks like all the emails where returned, but I'm not sure it caught all of them. If anyone receives any emails from me (jrandy34) or W32/Klez.h@MM titled "Welcome to my hometown", don't open it!!! If your anti-virus is updated, you'll be ok.

I run AVG Antivirus and it works real well.. and the best thing of all is that its free to download.
Also, I work on peoples computers locally arond here and a lot of people don't know they have to update their anti-virus software.. just do it for free online!!!

Plan to get painted weekend before memorial day weekend.
Planned to be done March 7 when I turned 16. Didn't happen. Chose to do better job and be behind schedule instead of 1/2 doing it and it looking like junk.

Another way to avoid this virus/worm is to download Netscape 6.x and use that program for your mail. Microsoft Email programs arevery vulnerable to this worm.

big71, it is possible that you do have avirus/worm on your computer and not know it. But a lot of these e mails are putting e mail address of other peoples e mail address as the sender, so when it gets sent back it is actually not going to the person who's computer is infected. For example, your computer has my email address in its cache from looking at my web page, your infected computer uses your e mail to send out an e mail with my address as the sender. When the computer down the line gets that e mail, it will return it to the email address that is in the senders line, which would be mine. Even thought it came from you. I suggest everyone runs that scan that I listed the link above.

Here are some other helpful links:

You can get an online scan for viruses, trojans and variants at:
1. Symantec (Norton Anti-virus) Security Check - Free on-line scan
http://security1.norton.com/us/intro...=sym&langid=us
Click the 'Run Virus Check' or 'Run Security Check' button.
or
http://www.symantec.com/securitycheck/
Click 'Find out today if you are safe'. Then click 'Scan for Viruses'.
2. Trend Micro (PC-cillin) - Free on-line Scan - very good at detecting 'joke' viruses
http://housecall.antivirus.com
A small Download Required
3. Panda's Active Scan

Anti-virus programs do not clean Trojans well.
Here is a good site on "How to Detect" Trojans and spyware using 'netstat -an'.

Be sure to check the "How to Detect" Link at the top of page.
9. "The Cleaner" is free for 30 days and removes most Trojans…

big71, the reason you are getting so many of these return e mails is because of your web pages. Infected computers are getting your e mail address off your web pages and using as the "sending address" of their e mails that are sending them to other computers. I get the same thing every day. It freak me out at first, until I did some research and scanned my computer and found out it was not me sending the worm. I scan my computer everyday now, just to make sure. It only takes a minute or so if you use the above link.

Randy,

Thanks for the heads up. It is unfortunate
that people derive pleasure out of causing these kind of problems. I just had my anti virus updated with Norton's new updated version as suggested, it certainly is a good idea for everyone to check their system.

There appears to be a lot of knowledge on the board about computers and virus protection so questions on this can be answered.

Good luck!

Jim
