If by kick down cable you are talking about the Throttle Valve (TV) cable, you should not even drive the thing without it hooked up or you will burn up that trans. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here.

Correct, do not drive without a properly adjusted throttle valve cable. It is not just a kick down. It controls shift points and firmness depending on throttle position. You also need to make sure the pivot ball on the carb where the TV hooks to is the correct distance from the throttle shaft that goes through the carb so the cable gets the correct amount of pull.

This is good to hear I have not been driving the truck on a regular basis just took it out 2 times for the first test drive since installing motor and tranny.I havent got over 35 mph around my subdivision.I have heard that adjusting the tv cable can be a pain to get just righ, the throttle bracket Im using is adjustable so that might help me out some.Is it just adjust to prefrence or is there a certian way to do it right?

just an fyi i wired up the tranny ran a toggle switch and it works good so far the lockup is working in 3rd and 4th.I also rigged a bracket for the tv cable had to make one for it weld one together.After several adjustments seem to have it right went out to the new side of the subdivision and had some fun had the wife take this I left this in o/d and just took it easy.

isn't this what a $80 TCI kit does without any switches under the dash for lock or unlocking converter??
