Project pretty twin, '54 COE

So it's time to start again. this time I picked up a '54 5 window COE. This one is missing a lot of small parts but all the important stuff is there and in good shape. Body is very solid with only one cab corner needing replacement. At some point this one was stripped and then coated with some kind of clear brush paint. The plan is to basically build a twin of the '47 with the exception of finished paint, high level of detailing and nice interior. The '47 has turned out the be a great truck, gets 18 MPG, hauls good, looks cool, and I am very happy with it all the way around. Because of this, I will build the '54 the same way, '03-06 Silverado chassis and drive train. There will be some minor changes. How would you like to see this behind you at 80 MPH!
Oh, and most important, I have a current registration and paperwork with the truck. I will do the transfer tomorrow. This one came out of Western Georgia.
Rob

Tagging along too. Any idea where the body came from to be so solid?

Re: Project pretty twin, '54 COE

Not sure on that Doug, I did check the VIN and it looks like it was made in Baltimore, MD., from there who knows. It is real solid so I would guess most of it's life was as a summer farm truck with little road use. It had a long flat bed with some heavy knobby tires on the back.

Man, that is some sweet sheet metal! Very nice Rob! I've been keeping an eye out for another one but I haven't found any under $2500 for a cab and front clip yet. This is going to be a sweet project!

That is a nice looking cab to start a project.

Re: Project pretty twin, '54 COE

Your first COE was great this one will be even better. I love how you used your COE to pick up your new COE.

Re: Project pretty twin, '54 COE

Thanks all, this one will have a slower start. Right now the car budget is flat so it's time to let the Cobra go to fund this project. That will also free up some shop space, it seems like having a build in pieces takes up way more space then it should.

Re: Project pretty twin, '54 COE

Hi all, no major updates except I did receive the title in the mail so now I can proceed when ready. I do have a question: on the "54 model will the pick-up grill interchange with the COE? They are the same style but I have none to compare.
Thanks
Rob
