Re: My 50 Suburban build

1950ChevySuburban, Great job. I love all the custom made parts. And a lot better than a PT cruiser!

Re: My 50 Suburban build

The body was left stock, just some basic rust repairs and stuff. I did shave the rear doors and they open with a popper. The hood was welded up and leaded by me. I had a guy do the final bodywork, and then I shot it in Urethane primer and blocked it for an eternity!
Had it painted Ford Wimbledon white in Urethane.

Time to ice the cake!
Studebaker Avanti mirrors - not too small, not too bulky.
49 Plymouth bumpers - ribbed for her pleasure! HAHA
Stock emblems and the '40 Ford door handles in place

Re: My 50 Suburban build

Sent it out to P+L Upholstery to get the interior done. I told Paul there that I wanted the Chevy Nomad style chrome strips across the headliner, and the rest is up to him. Told him keep it classic, classy and not dated. I think he hit a home run!

Re: My 50 Suburban build

Well, that's the highlights of the build. Lots of small details not really seen in pictures: Door wiring hidden in springs, speakers hidden either side of rear AC unit.
Power windows activated by stock cranks, made my own linkage to activate DPDT switches for that.
Heated driver's seat, 3-point belts up front.
Center seat is a narrowed pickup seat, 3rd row seat is 3 school bus seats cut up and is easily removeable.
Seats 8 comfortably and safely.
Driven all the time, everywhere. 5000+ miles on the build so far!

You can see in the rain pic how the LEDs light up and identify the ac/heat switches and the extra '39 Chevy taillight used as a clock.
And since my wife drives this one, I got the smaller sibling for my daily.....

Re: My 50 Suburban build

Remember my intake with the Dellortos? Well they were ebayed right from Italy and ran well right out of the box. I didn't want to screw with them all the time, so I converted them into throttle bodies and run Megasquirt injection now. LOTS and LOTS of time building, wiring and programming went into this. Starts right up, idles nice and last I checked got 22mpg on the freeway!
250 six, 700R4 that my wife and I rebuilt, C4 Vette rear end.

Re: My 50 Suburban build

Very nice build, great attention to detail. It turned out very nice and the fact that it is driven daily is cool. If all that happened outside with a bread truck for a shop you will be dangerous in a real shop. good luck with the next build

He was one of those guys I considered as a friend even though I had never met him face to face. I'll miss him may he rest in peace and be out of pain.

Re: My 50 Suburban build

Nice. There's something about the suburban and panel truck that looks good. If I could have found one of those before my truck who knows!!!
