70 GMC parking lights in grill don't come on

On my 1970 GMC, the parking lights in grill don't come on, the turn signals work fine, the side markers work fine, but the parking lights in grill do not come on in any switch position.

Maybe these don't have parking lights there?
I don't have a WD to check against.

Thanks!

Look and see if they are double element bulbs. If they are then something isn't working. If the are single elements then your correct.
According to this post you should have park lights also.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Thanks - I'll check it out. Id like to have them work, but that would require a harness change I imagine.

Re: 70 GMC parking lights in grill don't come on

I had a similar situation in my 70 Chev. I had to run extra ground wires to those lights. I made a "pig tail" which was a wire with a ring terminal on both ends. One end went under the head of one of the light's mounting bolts. I found an original hole in the radiator support. That's where I put the other one with the help of an extra bolt.

Try touching a scrap of wire by hand to see if that fixes it temporarily.

The front parking lights should be running lights and turn signal's both. Side markers will only be running lights. They didn't start having the turn signal's until 71.

Just to elaborate on Andy suggestion only cause someone could've put in the only bulbs they had.

Pull a bulb.
there should be two contacts in the bottom of the socket.
And two contacts on the bottom of the bulb.

Re: 70 GMC parking lights in grill don't come on

get a tester and see if you have power at the plug, check with a different ground and islolate the problem to the plug conntection, bulb, or ground. if those check out and it still doesn't work you can run a new hot wire off the headlight switch.
I'm guessing you won't have to do that though.
prob ground issue.
changing electrical problems is a game of elimination.

Re: 70 GMC parking lights in grill don't come on

If the turn signals are working I would guess that grounds are not the problem especiallly when both lights aren't working.

The parking lights are fed by a purple wire straight from the headlight switch which starts as a brown wire and runs to the firewall block where it connects with the purple wire that goes to the parking lights. I would pull the socket plug off the left light cause it's easy to get to and jump from the battery positive to the purple wire terminal and see if the right light comes on. If it does then there is a power problem not a ground problem.

follow the purple wires back to the firewall block. On the inside of the cab they connect to the brown wire that runs to the head light switch.

Have you checked to see if the bulbs are good?

Like the saying goes, when you see hoofprints, think horses, not zebras!

Sometimes it's the simple solution :-)
