Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

C10 Long Bed YG7 "B": Original avocado interior (always covered, nearly pristine) and original 307 engine (112K). Husband bought it super clean (1-owner before him) and rust-free. He had it painted in 2009 (it was Medium Green and white - yeah, with the avocado), added Tonneau cover, green spray bed liner, new chrome body trim, wheels & tires. Has SPID, original sales receipt, service records. He rarely drives it but it always starts right up. (That right there is the extent of my knowledge)

We joined this site to learn more about the Highlander phenomenon…You guys don't disappoint.

He's not that into old trucks, but I guess he thought this one was interesting. As far as I'm concerned it has always been for sale.

Is it safe for y'all to post pictures of SPID? No concern for unscrupulous types to copy/forge? Maybe superimpose a "watermark"…?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

That is a nice truck and the changes you made only enhance the appearance. As far as Spid pics go, I've been on this its since 2003 and have seen lots of people post spid pics and have never heard of any having any fraudulent issues because of it. I have sen spids posted with the last 6 digits of the serial number taped over which would render the spid useless for fraud purposes.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Nicely done color change! Do you happen to know the color code/brand of paint?

Like Greg says we don't have a known problem posting them and if it concerns you there are options.

1)Not posting
2)Clipping the entire top off.
3)Clipping or covering the partial or whole VIN only.

Of these the last six digits is the most preferable short of a full SPID. That way we can see the year and plant. These are both important in my SPID research.

Here is a Custom Deluxe/30 Longhorn Highlander Promo Package "C" Custom Camper so altered (hope to add this truck to my collection too).

* VIN/Model Decoders
* Power Team Charts (engine/transmission/gear ratio)
* Post Your Pickup SPID Blazer SPID Suburban/Panel SPID
* RTFM
... Read The Factory Manuals... download 'em here

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I don't know guys… Still think someone could copy a SPID photo, doctor/age it, in order to stick in a glovebox and try to pass off truck/options as original.

Like Tim said, just cut the whole top of the spid off. No worries then

Why the difference in number of digits in option codes? 3 vs. 6?

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Its hard to do a covincing fake SPID. Most attempts are clearly evident to people who know.
Take for example this truck a "Super Cheyenne/10".
It is not the SWB Cheyenne Super/10 claimed.
The SPID, someone tried to reproduce, is clearly wrong in many ways from the font to the layout. Not to mention it is VIN and model coded for a C/20 and probably a Promo Package "C" Highlander at that, based on the codes used. Notably the YG8 and the 618 ORANGE PLAID.
To me it looks like everything after the trim and paint codes were added as it was retyped.

Thanks for the SPID.
Very Nice!

To answer your question on the prefix and suffix numbers and letters. These were used mainly on early trucks to differentiate the specific option configuration a truck had. Generally they do not apply to most of the trucks on the board to any great extent and often not used thus the three character codes.
An example of this is on a 67 the chromed bumper rpo code (V37) did not indicate front or both, the suffix numbers did.

Rare is always hard to quantify and more so as people tend to equate rarity with value that more often than not, isn't there. Your Promo Package "C" YG8 with 618 orange plaid is a nice truck in good colors. If it were a Custom Camper too Jocko would probably have already contacted you (kidding). In reality it is on par with pretty much any other C20 with 402/TH400 and A/C in similar condition.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

So I believe my 72 truck is a "Highlander". Blue and white. black carpet, column and dash. Long bed. Blue Plaid interior which I believe is original. My build sheet/sticker in glove box only reads "611 BLUE PLAID BENCH".
???

No Doubt there! The 611 code (blue plaid) gets you in the Highlander club.
The SPID (glove box door) should also show you as having Z62 Custom Deluxe trim that the Highlander Plaid was an upgrade to.
Be nice to see pictures of the truck and SPID. Its not by chance a Tarrytown NY built truck is it? Vin code "T" in the seventh position.

It is "Custom Deluxe Trim" and an Atlanta built truck. I emailed you pics.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

Tim,
I really look to your post on many things (like Highlanders) as the authority.
Heres my situation...
I found a 2wd blazer and the guy is arguably asking too much for it, its not for sale anywhere but I can purchase it from him. can you assist on its apparent original state as it look untouched (and a little rough around the edges). I appreciate all you insight.

That has huge potential!! You can see DF2 camper mirror (a la Highlander) holes on the doors.

It sure seems legit but im working him on the price. Do you have a range you think its should sell for? It hasnt ran in a few years but is not locked up. Interior is about the same as the outside... but its all there.

So are you hiding from the Blazer guys over here? :-)
There is a Blazer/Jimmy plaid thread as well.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=635033

First off I never thought I'd see a 4x2 Blazer Highlander much less a Promo Package "C" too.

This is the only one I know of so far.
As to its value that is very subjective.
But considering any 2wd Blazer goes high this is going to be up there.

As a restored ride this would be an eyecatcher for sure. The Tangier Orange looks great with the orange plaid and white interior. About the only thing I would add are a set of sliding windows (if you can find any)!

Being a Highlander or more specifically a Promo Package "C" the options are very specifc and may not be exactly "the look" for you.

As it sits in the pictures, for the most part it looks correct.

The rally wheels are of course incorrect as it had the PA1 full wheel covers stock (same as a Monte Carlo).

The white paint below the rockers is an incorrect addition. Originally it was solid true orange with a white top.

The mirrors are probably the hardest to accept. Highlander Promo Package Blazers had Camper Mirrors (DF2 stainless) at any option level. If you look closely at the doors, the five holes are clearly apparent from the original installation.

The trailer hitch is an additon, but you already knew that.

Without seeing the interior it is impossible be of much help there. But of note are the Blazer only console and wood door trim with the Highlander plaid trim.

The rust does seem to be pervasive so check it very carefully.
Any way this works out please keep us updated.

Re: Do you have a 1972 Plaid Pickup?

I concur with most of what SS Tim has to say

As for a price range - tough. More pics would help. As shown and if basically complete I'd say $3500-6000 as a project. If I could get my hands on it I'd restore it back to original with a few minor tweaks. I may have one spare slider window to get you going. FWIW as a point of comparison, a buddy recently paid $4000 for a non-running Highlander 4wd (more common) Blazer that was mostly complete sans original motor.

Good luck and keep us posted!
