68 c10 long bed to short, project “Rusty”

I started on this yesterday evening and worked on it some today as well, cutting it down to a short bed. I scored this frame for free and the previous owner started the job by cutting 8” off the back. He must have decided he didn’t want to go this route and abandoned the project. My welding skills isn’t the best but I’m real good with a grinder! Lol…Here is a few pics!

Cool that you're shortening it and getting it back on the road. I'm no pro welder but those welds don't look the greatest to me. Are you doing a reinforcing plate on the inside of the frame? Maybe since yours and other peoples safety come into play, maybe hiring a pro welder would be good in this case? You have the proper cut in the frame for strength though!

I too am not an expert welder but one thing that has helped me weld better is that depending on the thickness of the metal get some scrap of the same thickness and practice. Vertical and horizontal. It also help you get the wire speed and heat dialed in.
I would a boxing plate the full length of the splice.
